    Hi,

First post on the chat and its non F-car related, go figure. I have narrowed my options to two cars: a stock NA1 NSX-T or a mostly stock (new wheels) 996 TT. Both have about 50k miles, but the NSX-T will cost me about 5k more in final purchase price.

Car will mostly be used on weekends for cruising around and going through the hills. Probably a once a month trip about 150 miles away to the in-laws for the wknd. Since it wont be used too often I definitely am looking for a wow, fun factor of enjoying the ride and feeling a little speed.

    Pros leading me to NSX:
    - Love 80's/90's design and NSX seems timeless to me (looks a bit like an F-14 tomcat)
    - Would love to have the targa top and enjoy the sun
    - Reliable, easy to get parts
    - Nice weight balance
    - Great resale should I grow tired of the car
    - Rare

    Cons:
    - Lack of HP and torque without spending around 8-10k in turbo/sc setup
    - Older/dated interior (not a huge deal to me)
    - Wont get the interior color I want (want tan but the seller only has black)
    - Hard to find, not easy to set up a test drive

    Pros for the 996TT:
    - Gobs of power and much easier to get more
    - Surpisingly good gas mileage
    - Heard they are quite reliable
    - Newer
    - Cheaper to buy that the NSX (about $5k for the one I want)

    Cons:
    - More expensive maintenance
    - Lower/sinking? resale value
    - Not as timeless a look
    - Not as rare

Based on the pros and cons (let me know if I'm off the mark as well) and also your experience with these two vehicles, which one should I look to get?

    Thanks for any feedback

For me? The NSX hands down.

    But I own a 993 C4S.

Personally, I'd go for the NSX, but there's really no wrong choice in my opinion! The one bad thing about 911s is that the rarer ones (Turbos, GT2s, GT3s, etc) tend to be mistaken by casual car fans as "just a 911."

Get the one that is more fun to drive, faster. Sounds like a Pcar to me.

There is a reason the NSX is worth more.

Personaly I could not live with the 996 fried egg look or the boring nature of the TT on backroads.

On the otehr hand, I also might struggle with the low power nature of the NSX, that is all depednant on the type of roads you drive on.

Twisties will favor the nsx as a driving expoerience hands down. On the highway, the TT is in a completly different orbit.

If you can live with the lower power of the nsx, based on where you drive, then you get the wind in your hair, better looks and better long term value,

If you are less of a corner feedback person, and want omg power its the porche.

It's more fun to drive a slow car fast than to drive a fast car slow. Since this is a weekend fun car go NSX if it were a daily driver I would say go Porsche. I daily drive a 997 TT but my "fun" car is a slower F355.

NSX all the way for me too (might be biased; have 2 early coupes at the moment ;-)

For all their acumen in the twisties, they also have an excellent highway ride and seats that allow long distances to be covered without discomfort.

Oh, and the NA1's at least are all done depreciating and on the upswing it seems.

My vote between these two is the NSX. I'm not a fan of the 996 styling.

The NSX for me as well. Classic styling, bullet proof reliability etc etc etc. 911's do not even turn my heard anymore but a NSX always does. Consider the extra $5K in cost as money saved compared to the maintenance cost of a Porsche, just saying.

    "Hey look a 996TT, cool."
    "HEY LOOK A NSX, AWESOME!!!!".

Don't quite understand this, as, to me, the NSX interior is miles ahead of the 996.

Back in the day? I bought a 964 because I couldn't quite swing an NSX. Still wish I somehow got the NSX - I would never let that car go.

I just purchased a 996 turbo for my daily driver. For 30k it's one hell of a car.

    -AWD
    -Backseats
-probably at bottom of depreciation curve
    -build quality is fantastic
    -very active local PCA
-easy power upgrades for equivalence to modern supercars

Damn you can find them for $30K now, wow! I have always loved the 996TT styling and power (just love the NSX more). Nice score, congrats.

Personally think the NSX is best left stock. Too many modded versions out there that ruin the car IMHO.

Normally Id say the Porsche. But just on pure styling alone, Id have to say NSX. I love the looks of the NSX. Even though I find it a little slow compared to its contemporaries. I've thought about getting an early one. They are reasonable money, when you are buying on looks alone!

Tough choice, they are both awesome cars. The NSX looks a bit dated but still has that exotic look. A car enthusiast will generally recognize the 996 for what it is, but your average joe schmoe would have a hard time knowing if it was a 2015 model or one that's ten years old. Personally I'd pick the 996 so I could bring my two boys along for a ride.
