XJR, Maser QP but I don't know if either are "super" in the performance sense.

first gen Caddy V series too. CTS or STS

Except that BMW screwed up with the rod bearings in the V10 (and in the M3 V8) and quite a few engines are blowing up as a result - google "BMW rod bearings" for some interesting reading. I wouldn't touch one of those engines.

My vote would go for the Audi S8! Of course, there was also the RS6 with the twin turbo V10, even more super. :D

    1st Gen?.....why not the 2nd Gen?
2nd Gen V's were intro'd before '10, and were much better cars

The M3 or M5's of that vintage a great cars.

    I just picked up a 2008 BMW m3 AND I enjoy it a lot.

The Corvettes did not become good until 2008. The new C7 Vette is low cost and a great sports car.

I love my Audi R8 V10. It is a great car.

S65 AMG - NOTHING compares for the money. The specs aren't just on paper - they are real - it will walk away from any car mentioned on a strip run. Tune it with Renntech, Kleemann, and all will bow down.

Go S63/S55 if you must, but the interiors are inferior to their big brother with a V12 badge.

My friends V10 M5 engine blew up last week... having said that it was a 2006 and is rather preventable with an oil analysis.

2009+ should be okay but just like the subframe issues in the E46 M3 aftermarket preventive maintenance is highly recommended.

Having said that I wouldn't consider the Audi S6/S8 a super sedan they are SLOW!

    2008-2010 Audi RS6 - twin turbocharged 5.0 V10; 571 hp. Factory rated 0-62 mph at 4.5 sec. I think that's pretty quick! ;)

are the s65s faster than the s63 - I was under impression that the s65 had more hp but the s63 was faster cuz it was lighter. is that wrong?

Jaguar Super V8 (a supercharged Vanden Plas). Aluminum construction, pretty rare. 400hp seems underpowered in this discussion though.

M-B CL65. Super coupe. Google the Edmunds long-term test that ended a few months ago to see eye-watering repair bills when it all goes wrong. But when it goes right it is glorious....

M-B S65 as was mentioned earlier. S600 still had 500 hp and are stupid cheap. Probably for a reason.

A very oddball choice might be the W12 VW Phaeton.

BTW, with the mention of more expensive cars like the Bentleys, no love for Maybach? Perhaps the most luxurious interior ever made in production with reclining rear seats and champagne chiller. Maybach 59 would be $50-70k these days with a few miles.

Your source is wrong. The S65 is marginally faster in both 0-60 and quarter, but the interior is exponentially better - there is a reason it was about $60k more than its S63 little brother. The great thing is the price gap has shrunk on the secondary market.

The price to repair is high without question when compared to a pedestrian S-class MB, but if you own a Ferrari or any other exotic high repair costs should shock you and relative to the cars original MSRP. If you want to drive an elite car...there is no free lunch.

I had a 2006 E55 and it was a fantastic car in every respect. Never had a single problem with it either.

Corrected...to say it should NOT shock you. After all this is a car that will crush most Ferrari's on a drag race.

Pre Kompressor E55's are bullet proof rocketships....and low entry cost 4 door sedans.

Second the XJR, had one for 7 years and it was a real joy to drive. Aside from tires, it wasn't too expensive to keep up either.

The V CTS is one I've always been curious about, but GM build quality in the era seemed low to me, friend had a Denali and after 3 years it didn't hold up so well.

Personally I would only consider 09 and up.

Things like gloss surfaces on the interior scuff/fingerprint easily and overall materials and build quality aren't on par with import rivals but certainly nice and a lot of car for the money.
