Can't stand the new whitish and way too bright headlights and fog lights coming on the newer cars...have to wear sunglasses at night...what is going on? crazy bright...let alone people driving around with high beams up, fog lights on, and burnt break lights. on a separate note...have you notices that 2 or 3 out of 10 GMC/Chevy trucks (new or fairly new) have a burnt light? happy new year folks.

I have been wondering if it is the newer generation of lights, or just me aging! I agree with you - they are way too bright.

I suspect bright white DRLs cause more accidents than they prevent, for this reason: they are so bright that drivers routinely forget to turn on their actual headlights. With their headlights off, their tail lights are off, making their cars nearly invisible from behind.

Prior to the widespread adoption of DRLs, I don't remember seeing so many cars driving at night with no tail lights. Now it's commonplace.

GM had it right with their bright orange parking lamp DRLs. No one would use those as headlights. Plus they were noticeable without dazzling oncoming traffic. But GM abandoned them to conform with fashion.

Agreed. what used to be a two stage knob or a button or a stalk to turn the vehicle's driving lights or headlights ON, is nowadays a multiposition switch. OFF ON and Auto mode. In automode, the sensor detects darkness and turn ON vehicle lights, and we can see that easily when going underneath an overpass, or a short tunnel. That's fine. The problem comes when drivers switch the switch to OFF, but in their minds the lights will "come ON automatically" after dark........and they don't because the switch is in the OFF position, and that kills the darkness sensor. these are the drivers we often see driving around with NO tail lights or headligths during night hours.

yes Cataracts is a possibility deserving investigating. Thing is I just came out of a detailed eye exam by a specialist within last 30 days and he said I am fine. I will go back and double check just in case thanks.

Some people are putting HID bulbs into standard headlights. The headlights designed for HID lamps have a very well defined vertical light cutoff. Standard headlights don't have that feature so when a HID bulb is used there is a huge amount of glare. And yes fog lights, when left on all of the time, are a huge pain in the ass.

...the huge and growing number of giant diesel pickups with 12" lifts and HID's.
Low beams nicely positioned at your eye-level......

and the high-beams? Clear over your head! No idea what value they are to the PU......

This is what I hate about driving my Porsche 944 at night. The truck behind me making it so I could hold a book up in front of my rear view mirror and read it clearly. One of these guys head on is real fun to.

The solution - if you can't beat 'em, join em. I no longer have the problems with other people's headlights bothering me at night when I drive my 2009 vs 1984 except in the most extreme of cases.

This is a new BMW suv passing me....and I think these are the low beams!
The worst are the Audi's and then Lexus cars.....would it be illegal to install bright lights pointing backwards?....
