For years I have heard incredible things about the 2005 Mercedes CLK DTM. When comparing it to the LeMans winning Mercedes CLK GTR Hartmut Feyhl stated that the DTM was actually his favorite car to ever drive on a track. I honestly always assumed it was a Mercedes CLK 63 Black Series with body modifications, boy was I wrong. It is virtually a carbon fiber, 600hp, race car for the street. Literally... everything is carbon fiber... door panels... seatbelt harnesses... gas cap door... And not the type of aesthetic carbon fiber...

We recently purchased a 2,000 mile 2005 Mercedes CLKDTM from its original owner, one of maybe 4 or 5 in the USA, and 1 of 100 for the world... While I have not written a blog about the car yet, jumped into hours of research or even had the time to summarize my emotions and thoughts... all I can say is WOW. This may be one of the most fun cars I have ever driven...

Wanted to share some photos we took of our car! Enjoy!

Anyone else here on the forum have one? Anyone know exactly how many are in the USA? Email us at [email protected] if you have one as well!

    584 hp?

I know the motors have different internals... but the blocks could be the same?

It shifts like a race car semi-manual, slight clunky but very direct. I'll research!

No, the C55 didn't have the M113 5.4K, which is what the DTM has. The K is for kompressor (supercharged). Your C should have the M113 5.4, which makes about 200hp less.

Various years of the CL, CLS, E, S, SL, and G55 series used that supercharged motor with various level of hp. The DTM had the most power output at 574hp. The least was at 469hp (2003-2006 E55 and 2006 G55 and CLS55) other 55s (CL, S, and SL) that time had 493hp.

The DTM uses an automatic transmission and not a clutch-based F1 system (I wish it did). I don't know the differences in the transmission from the other 5.5L supercharged AMG cars.

I've always loved the DTM. The CLK GTR is still my favorite modern Mercedes...I've seen two in person and it looks amazing.

I've met a guy once, in Austria, who was heading to Nurburgring together with his coupe and the convertible version of that beautiful Benz! He was crazy and the cars were impressive.

From the specific platform my choice would be this: http://ag-spots-2015.o.auroraobjects.eu/2015/03/28/mercedes-benz-clk-63-amg-black-series-c881428032015195029_3.jpg

I really love the CLK 63 Black Series. One of the few MB that i admire a lot!

Actually, the C55 has 360 hp coming from a normally aspirated V8, which is fine by me. I passed on buying a C63 because it has about 100 hp more. You see, I have learned my lesson about using high horse power cars as a daily driver. The more ponies, the faster you burn up rear tires and lose your license. :)

That said, I have owned a: C55 (2), E55, and a SL 55. MB knows how to put torque into V8s!

I never liked that black series coupe. drove it back to back with gtr and no contest. just the amg slush box vs the Nissan dct alone made all the difference. then the steering, suspension...

Tuned variants of the same engine & transmission combo were used in the SLR McLaren, as well!

Correct. The n/a 55 engine in your car I'm sure makes a ton of torque for the streets.

Here's an assembly video of an n/a V8 AMG engine. Pretty relaxing to watch imo :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xuc8sVERy6Q

They also made a small number of CLK-DTM convertibles. They are four seaters.

+1 and I remember him saying it was his favorite car that he owned. He would let a bunch of other people drive his cars to local shows (Enzo, Maybach, etc) and he would drive the CLK DTM. There was an older guy who also owned one. Seeing two at the same time was quite a treat. And yes they made some convertibles too... Something like 100 coupes and 80 convertibles for the world, with a handful of each in the US. Special car indeed.

Thanks. I've had pretty good luck with AMG cars. Regular MB, not so much.
