What are the pros and cons of these things? I like the styling of the late 90s ones.

Seems like they are pretty cheap these days.

It'll mainly be doing light off road duty, nothing too crazy.

    Some good info thanks.

Im trying to focus on the 90s models but don't know which ones are the best? Just always seemed to like the body style of the late 90s models.

I lean toward the Toyotas as well simply because I like the badge better than the Lexus one but if the Lexus is the same or better in some way I wouldn't be against it.

Just always thought these things were awesome and I have a few good places where Id actually be able to use it properly.

The two main series of the period are 80 and 100 with the switch to the 100 around 1998. I have one of each. In a nutshell, the 80 series is a more robust for off-road vs 100 due to the use of airbag driven active height control which can fail under heavy off-road use. 100 rides better, and has a more modern interior. Engines/ gearboxes etc are rock solid in both. My 80 has 230k miles and 100k miles in the 100. Neither have ever let me down!

there's a nice one on ebay I've been keeping an eye on. Leaning more towards a 2004-2006 though just because I'll be using it more as a cross-country cruiser than an off road vehicle.

The 97-98 Lexus LX450 is the exact same truck as the LC with the addition of leather seats, additional soundproofing, and a factory subwoofer. Here's mine from today.

That has been my experience, and I like that they look slightly more compact than the later 100 and 120 series. The whole drivetrain is quite unstressed which is great for longevity.

Looks like it just rolled off the line. Amazing how pristine it looks after nearly 20 years.

    Thank you.

I've already put in 1.5 times what I paid for it in upgrades, restoration work and mods in the month I've owned it, but it's coming together nicely. 192k miles and counting.

Very nice! Exactly what I'm going for.

No air suspension on the Lexus correct?

    Very nice!

And that thing def looks perfect, Im starting my search now.

Would you say black interior is more common on the Lexus vs the Toyotas? Toyotas seem to have a lot of light colored interiors.

I think the air suspension started with the LX470 (100 series). If you stay with the 450, then you are safe.

I don't think the LX450 was available with a black interior.
