So I'm driving to dinner and I have a passenger in the back seat. The instrument cluster is so large and concaved that it causes an echo in the back seat when I speak. When I turn my head away, no echo I'm told. Very interesting. Annoying for back seat passengers.

Automobiles are incredibly complex machines even without the 'digital malfeasance' (IMO:) ) . That said, that's a pretty big miss by MB.

I agree, you'd think they'd have someone sit in the back seat and notice such an odd thing and then do something about it.

What does that mean? "Digital' has nothing to do with his sound issue.

Could be wrong but I think its a statement about the unnecessarily complex and sterile LCD screens that are pervasive in today's cars. Not related to the OP's sound issue. As was stated here the only screen that matters is the wind screen!

is it really that much worse than a traditional instrument cluster covered in clear plastic would be?

I think the feature is that the microphone is projecting your voice to the rear passengers so they can hear you.

Maybe so. The Toyota Highlander has an option so the driver can talk (yell) at their kids in back and be heard.

Really? I'll have to reach out to the dealer and ask how to turn that off.

Is the consensus, then, that the issue IS digital malfeasance?
