I really want to like this car but just can't. should have 300+ bhp, shouldn't have been a Scion, etc.

Unfortunately, I'm not in the mood for Orange or White this year. True, would have been nicer with more HP. Seems to be an inexpensive (<$30K) GT car for somebody young and just starting out with their first new car in their career.

Needs twin turbos to be fun. I have sat in one and really liked it for what it is - a comfortable slow car from Toyota.

    Slow.....

    0-60 in 6.2 seconds.

For 8/10 of my lifetime that was blazing!

Agree fully. Scion completely lost the plot, and their identity, after the first generation xB. Having this car as a Scion when it came out was a real head scratcher.

It really needs to be in the low-mid 5 second range. The first automatics have nearly 8 second 0-60s which is appalling.

I think they are cool little cars, but definitely need more power IMHO.

Actually, the Miata is technically 0.1 sec faster and thus, gets bragging rights.

Here is an interesting site that keeps track of 0-60 mph and quarter mile times:

I think because Miata came 1st. Also, people developed the heck out of them even with turbos and wings and compete in much faster classes than one would think possible and be competitive, but still be cheap as dirt. Then the mazda factory supports the racing all the way down to amateur club racing. You can even buy a pro built MX5 global cup racer new for $5ok ready to race even up to the pro levels. And at 50k it would take you about that to take a new MX5 and build your own. So the answer is miata fits every budget. The next factory racer to be cheap was the bmw 235iR that never made it to the USA except by private importers and only 100 made so the low entry cost never materialized. Then the only other game in town is the porsche gt3 cup and later the cheaper cayman gt4 cup but those are in $6 figures! So mustang comes out with the FR350S factory racecar and takes a loaded mustang GT new for $40k puts in relatively low cost race parts and sell it for $120k. I'm betting those mustang factory racers don't sell well since the car is selling at twice the build cost.

I dig it. I love the BRZ/FR-S/86 variants. It's a great little mini-458. I'm just waiting for them to drop to coffee money in the used market.

Exactly. When they first launched, I went two or three times to the dealership to see if they were going to do an STi version with the turbo engine.

In the meantime, I grew up.

The engine feels like it belongs in a tractor. I've driven cars with less hp that were more fun and engaging because the engines weren't so coarse.

I had a modified one for two years, fun car, and good daily.

If you want fast, there are far better more engaging cars to own. If you want to meet Jesus, let me know when you are in Colorado and we'll take the Supra out.

To wring it's little neck in the canyons is what these cars were made for and where parking is tight.
