I'm usually not a fan of Replicas... especially when I see one of those "out of proportion" Fiero based TR replicas... but I just ran across this one on Ebay.
    It's a Corvette based '71 365 Daytona Spyder Replica...

Most of the repicas that I've seen so far were not even close to a real one, but that one seems to be to be a pretty decent looking replica.. Except the headlights, seats and a few other details, it's a pretty good replica...

    Any comments or opinions?

Unfortunately, you'd better look at it before you buy, which doesn't look like it would be really easy.

Could be nice, might not be.

I'm not gonna buy it, but it SEEMS like a nice replica..

Like you said, you'll never know unless you personally look at it...

FWIW, it looks like they "tried" when they made it.

Not a good one in my opinion. Many things wrong with it and a bit pricey.

There were two shops in the UK that used to do the conversions of the Berlinettas to Spyders. When that market dried up, they took molds off the originals and started building replicas on Jaguar basis. They are the most accurate of the Spyder replicas.

A friend of mine owns one of those and even gave me a ride in it. The V12 of the Jaguar has the power to back up the looks and the handling was simply superb, a far cry from any Vette based replica.

As a side note: It is amusing how many of the replicas (basically most McBurnies) end up with the plexi front, which in reality only was used on the prototype (although several conversions still have it). The UK replicas all have the correct pop up lamps.

The Jaguar based ones might be the most accurate ones, but I'd rather have a Vette based replica due to cheaper maintanance...

A complete 500 HP performance Chevy 383 stroker engine is cheaper than a clutch service on my TR :D

    You're right on both.

The Chevy engine is as powerful as the Jag and more durable, no question.

The real advantage of the Jag based replicas is the improved handling over the Vette. To be fair the UK replicas aren't using stock Jag suspension anymore, they tinkered with them quite a bit.

That would depend of which Vette chasis you used. A new Z06 based replica would handle quite well I suspect!

Definitely, but it would be hard to convert that to a Daytona because of the dimensions.

The C3 chassis was really perfect in that sense.

I have once seen a Daytona replica based on a C4, which has a much better handling than a C3, but the car was all wrong otherwise. C3 is what the McBurnies and the Rowleys were based on.

Another option would be to use a Chevy engine in the Jaguar replica.. I believe that they do make engine mount adapters to bolt in Chevy engines in Jags.. I've seen a few Jags with Chevy engines...

I believe that the Daytons Spyder replica in Miami Vice was built on a C3.. At least it had the late model C3 seats in it :D

indeed.. There also was more than 1 Testarossa in the show.. I've also read that some of the TR stunt cars were chevy based TR replicas... but there were at least 2 real TRs used..

No UK Jag style (e.g. Autokraft) cars are currently available in the US. However there is one guy who is about to set up a shop and wants to sell cars just like the UK ones, but on a generic frame. I'd say he is at least a year away from production if not more. Let me know if you want me to get him in touch with you.

    yes

    Hi-

I know this is an old link.....but I am looking for an "exact as possible" replica of the Miami Vice Daytona. Anyone have any leads on a quality made car?

    Thanks!

I would very much drive one of those for fun!

I know, sacrilege in a Ferrari forum but i love the Daytona but could never afford a real one.
