After searching the threads for touch-up paint suggestions, it looks like the three options are 1) www.paintscratch.com - but they only seem to offer FER 300, not 300/6, 2) Autozone or wherever to get a pen of VW Tornado Red, or 3) have my paint analyzed at a competent body shop. Is the FER 300 available at paintscratch the same as my FER 300/6? How close is the VW Tornado Red to 300/6? I'm hoping to get rid of a few chips with paint and Langka in preparation for a concours, but I'm admittedly too cheap to get my paint analyzed for two or three chips. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Ford PU red from the 70's or so is a perfect match for my '75 308GT4. It's a common color - I found a tube of paint at Walmart.

The paintscratch.com fer 300 I bought last year matches my '85 rosso corsa 300/6 perfectly. Tip: don't buy the touch up pen, buy a small 2oz jar. Then buy a couple high quality artist brushes (really tiny ones), a little acetone in a seperate cup and a little palate or paint cup for mixing/keeping the right consistancy (not gloppy or sticky). Using this method you can "build" the paint up in the chips or scratches without exceeding the margins of the damaged area, and minimize the "blob". You can color sand with 1500 wetordry and buff out after the touch ups cure, or do the Langka thing.

Interesting thread, just saw it. I have an ' 05 Tornado Red GTI sitting right next to my ' 82 GTSi that is FER 300 and is original paint. The Tornado red definitely looks a little more rose-ish or "pink", at least in garage light.
It seems that 300 and 300/6 did in fact change over the years though when you look at on a group of original paint cars, your mileage may vary depending on the era of your Ferrari. For tiny chips I may be inclined to try it anyway; once its been sanded out, tiny enough spot, etc, might look just fine when you're done.

Thanks all - I'm tempted to try the Ford and VW paint (ok, I admit it, I'm going to try both on lower body panels - thanks guys!) but being a "purist" (translation - too much of a pu&&y to try something not from a Ferrari paint code on the hood) I like Luigi's paintscratch.com 300 instead of 300/6 idea. However, with the Langka system w/blob remover should I use the paint pen so I get the chip filled in with some thick blobby paint, or should I go with the 2oz sample and do it a number of times?

Please for the love of Pete, use 300 over Ford paint. 300/6 is just the later version of 300, no doubt slightly different than 300. I haven't done an analysis of 300 versus 300/6 and how they compare to paintscratch.com but don't you think their 300 would be closer to your 300/6 than paint for a VW?

Not sure about the Lanka system but if you are DIY, fill the chip with a blob of paint. Get the paint pen and the bottle so you can also fill small chips with an artist's fine brush as mentioned above.

328 owners, take care to have a look at your paint label: the color changed from 300/6 to 300/9 in the middle of the calendar year 1987 (288 GTOs, although produced in 1984 and 1985, were already in 300/9).
300/9 is slightly brighter and more orange than 300/6. 300/12 appeared in 1992, and again is oh-so-slightly more orange than 300/9.

I remember a VW Red called Monza Red and it looked very similar to 300/12 or 300/9, also a bright orange red which tends to look darker depending on the light during the day.
