Nice picture and story, love the old ones. Cant say i would take the Porsche over the Countach though :D

By the way, the Black Watch Tartan is a very popular Tartan for anyone that didnt know, my friends have worn it regularly as kilts.

Nice story Joe! Oak Green looks amazing as a show car. More variety of color in the early cars.

Do you know anything about the other 930 factory show display car that was presented without an engine? A customer wanted an RSR but they were all spoken for. He saw the show car minus engine just sitting at the factory after it had been on the show circuit. He had a (RSR?) motor installed at the factory and shipped the car home to Australia. It was raced, sold, bought back again and then sold on again. Any pictures of that one? Thanks

Are you speaking of the silver Paris Salon car that became the 930 Spezial?

The Porsche was painted pearlescent silver and had a white stripe at the base of the door with the letters cut out to spell 'PORSCHE' in the silver body color. It also had the stripe as seen on the white 1976 Porsche picture earlier in this thread. Also added were the cut out letters 'Turbo' in silver to match the other stripe on the door. These were located just behind the rear fenders. The interior (seats and door panels) were done in the green plaid material like your car. It had the RSR body features with 9 inch and 11 inch Fuchs wheels with the centre of the wheel painted white to match the stripes. This car was first seen at the Frankfurt autoshow in September 1973. Unknown at the time; the car was a non-runner. Alan Hamilton was the first buyer who took the car back to Australia having created a street version of an RSR with the help and support of the factory.

Amazingly the car is for sale in NJ.

The Porsche you speak of had a mock engine made out of wood which was discarded by Alan Hamilton upon purchasing the car. I'll find you some more period pics of the car when it was raced. Here are a couple of pics I took last year when it was for sale in Australia.

Ralph, spent the weekend in Las Vegas (kids soccer t-ment) and made arrangements to see and drive a red 86 930....needless to say, I am just 'soft' for these cars...I never drive any of my cars enough, but 930's are just the very best 'drivers' for sure. Just like you suggested...not a queen, around 62K miles and clean...any guidance on value from you? What would you pay at this time for the car I have just described? I don't want to overpay at this time!!!

#1. Make sure mechanically, it is an excellent car. No point in saving 3K, and end up paying the mechanic twice that or more, to fix a signficant issue or two. What are they asking for the car ?

Remember the upcoming winter and the volatile stock market, all help the cash buyer. Kds (Keith), is more attuned to the actual Porsche market. My guess is somewhere around 25K+/-.

My '88 RUF BTR. Every RUF option including thier 5 speed, sans the slant nose. Why no slope? 'Cuz its stablemate is an '87 930S special wishes 930S one of one with factory options of 934 oil cooler/LED boost gauge, bigger intercooler, K27, fold down arm rest, ashtray in the door, underdash dropdown map compartments, spiral side markers and the console that RUF copied. Getting serviced, will post pics when it's home.

Ahh if it were only true! Then I wouldn't be, much to my wife's chagrin, constantly on the look.
I think about 67K members on F-chat alone may take objection to that claim. I'm one. *L*

The 930, is the best bang for your buck supercar. Yes, it can do everything the Countach and Boxer does (aside from curb appeal) - and more.

It is amazing, that anyone could build or purchase a replica, factory donor car, or kit, instead of buying a LeMan's class winning supercar.
