Do you get offended when people ask......

If I were in a position to respond to that question I would answer, "I should have never watched Magnum PI as a kid."

 

Damn, that's effed-up.

 

I had someone ask me this the other day at a party. I gave them a straight answer. They were just curious.


Turns out they had sold their company 4 years ago for 240 million. I found this out the next day from someone else.

Just say it's cheaper than being married

 

I just tell them it's cheaper than getting divorced....puts it in perspective.

 

Life's too short to get offended about a question like this. I've been asked a lot but they don't mean to be too nosy - they're just curious. I usually say that Ferraris range from expensive to not expensive and that they are on sale for half-off since the recession.

The other thing I get is that some people say "You'll never loose money on it." I correct that impression, telling them they depreciate just like any other car, except you're having more fun while they're doing it.

Semi related story.

I was out last night in the CS and I'm sitting at a traffic light. I hear a bunch of yelling and finally determine the kids in the car three lanes over are yelling nice car. So I roll down the window and say thanks.

One of the kids in the back seat yells out "what do you do for a living".... to which I replied, I steal cars... and then drove off.

 

LOL, I am picking up a lot of good answers this week. For once I have more answers than question.

Twin Turbo Supra all worked over cant pull away from a 355. Thats funny. There was less than a car link after 8 seconds. The 355 is a great car, yes, but fast off the line it is not. I am not a street racer and cherish my license and life; but still would not line up with a TT Supra, even that old one. They usually have 600-800HP and would embarrass my 430 in this type of race.

No one has ever asked me. But if someone does, my plan is to say "I borrowed it and have to get it back," then drive off .

 

i always just say "too much" and smile. only people who've asked me are close friends though so some i've told. They're usually surprised by how relatively cheap it was.

I would think that anyone in a modded Supra would probably also know where the line came from. I hope they would think it was funny. Because in the theaters everyone definitely laughed.

Very true. I have a 97 single turbo (67 trim DBB) Supra that dyno'd at 615hp at the wheels on pump gas as well as a 02 360 Spider. The Supra is much quicker... But it's still not a Ferrari! Enough said.

 

I will use that, $90 a pound. Very FUNNY !

 

That figures to the same cost per weight as a $150 bottle of wine.
