He is still desperate to prove he is the best driver in the world, he can't do it in F1 anymore.

Lets see him drive like an animal at Indy.

Jenson probably coming back ...what next Nicole coming back too ?:)

A bit of context: last years winner was Alexander Rossi who won as a rookie for Andretti Motorsport. I don't think that anyone has touted him as WDC material.

I must say I'm waiting for Lewis' reaction on that news...will he be green with envy, or will he just scoff at it?

But he's one guy who did have some brief F1 experience.

True, it'll be extraordinary circumstances IF they manage the podium or top 5 even. But crazy stuff has happened and if they're going to happen, they'll probably end up happning to Alonso. My guess: His Honda blows up and Mclaren get double points finish in MC :D

Remind you of Monaco '96...just 3 cars finishing with a Ligier winning it, lol

Was quite a bit of luck involved though, wasn't it? IMO that's quite often the case with Indy500, though I'm not a big fan of oval racing, only watch the 500 really...

With the way McLaren is positioned, he's not going to lose the WDC by missing Monaco. Might be an opportunity for him to actually be competitive for a weekend. It's cool to see a "Jean Girard" play in our sandbox.

+1 on the craziness of Monaco. FA feels its not worth the effort and I applaud him going to Indy. He is a racer. Whats not to like :)

"Hello Michael, this isn't Ron. Do you remember you said all those years ago that if we let you go you owed us a really big favor: well we're calling it in""

And I think it will be fascinating especially given Alonso's comments about how massively he enjoyed the last two races

The french press is reproducing a line from the McLaren communiqué saying that "the identity of the pilot who will be driving Fernando's car in Monaco will be revealed in due time".

I swore I wasn't going to watch it again after last year but this is quite interesting so I will. :)
Didn't even think of that, very cool.
True. And realistically speaking, Indy500 is where he actually has a decent chance of winning, Monaco, even with a completely bonkers race...Hmm. It would mean the Mercs, Ferraris, Red Bulls, STR's and presumably Massa + Force India's to crash out....AND that Honda lasting an entire race (luckily this is a short race :D). Quite big odds.

That said, I'd probably never tire of lapping Monaco and I'd prefer to take my chances there, not many races left for him at Monaco. Last year a 49 year old was on the grid at Indy...

At a different point in his career, Jim Clark skipped Monaco to go to Indy.

    He won.

The real question is whether Alonso will finish ahead of Sato.

I can see Alonso's thinking: Being lapped around Monaco would be very embarrassing!

What does this say about Honda with regards to Alonso? While a disastrous 3 and possibly 4th seasons/season in F1 they are really committed to the Spaniard in both venues(F1/IndyCar)....he(FA) is in good company and in a good company.

I love it. Loved it when Mansell came over, so it's only natural I love this. I'm happy more than anything for Indycar. Such close racing it deserves more world wide recognition and Alonso will give them that, if only for one race. Without a doubt, I'm going to Indianapolis with this move.
