I always preferred the smaller rear window on the early 275GTBs. Gives it more of a vintage look perhaps.

Here is the photo from Prancing Horse #48, CH. Doesn't it look like some Modenese rush job?

But Kare might be right saying it's the same car as 7185, alledgedly "the third of only three very special competition berlinettas..." after the famous (and unique) 6885. If you compare both photos, the latter 7185 car is nothing else than an "elaborazione" on the earlier rush job.

This is 07185. Too bad it was hotrodded beyond recognition. Somebody must have thought it would be more funky as a wannabe race car. I think it was 10 times as exciting as a road car! Best wishes, Kare

Kare: it would be even far more exiting as a plain standard 275 GTB.

Tom thank you for sharing the old picture from PH #48! Hard to believe they are one on the same with 7185. The car has been really worked over to no good effect. I agree with Kare that the original was not changed for the better.

An interesting story some time would be all the Ferrari models that Rob de la Rive Box of Switzerland got his hands on...

We purchased 8769 for our customer some time back in the '80s and serviced it for a number of years. I believe the car was a prototype in engine only (4 cam prototype). The car was dark gray when we picked it up but later painted red by our client.

I have photos but don't have a scanner. If you really would like them, let me know and we'll figure out a way to get them to you.

I remember it well. Dan F. showed me around the car when I stopped by one afternoon. Every time it was in for service after that, I would also stop and look.
A(any) 4 cam in Grigio Argento is stunningly beautiful.
I didn't know it was 'the prototype'. Apt that it was the first 4 cam I got to know. I never expected to find it in a thread on Fchat though.
I've never forgotten the car and I've never forgiven the owner (who I knew) for respraying. Tom Justice at Valley Paint & Body in Amelia did a fantastic job, but going from original G.A. to resale red was, to use the term loosely, a crime.

If you get the photos scanned, it would be great to see them in this thread!

    Thanks for posting, Tyler.

    Best Regards,
    Dave

Thanks for contributing. I'm glad someone else could comment on the car. I've got a file full of old photographs of Ferraris that have been in the shop over the years. Thankfully, due to our old computer system, pretty much all of them remained in our system with the VIN numbers. If I can get around to scanning all of them, I'll post them in the old photos section.

    Best,

    Tyler

I wonder why Coys give 08769 as the 1966 Paris Show car which was not silver but dark red ??

The Paris Show car should be 09021 which was sold new to France...

Have they perhaps misunderstood the text from the book Ferrari 70 years?

Coys have no idea what they are talking about.

08769 was originally Nocciola (hazelnut) but later repainted Argento Metallizzato 106-E-1.
08769 is NOT the 1966 Paris Motor Show car.
The factory issued their Certificate of Origin on April 19, 1967.
The car was sold 15 May 1967 to the first private owner, a 50 year old lady in Rome. It then had six further owners in Italy until the first one in Illinois, USA, 1974.

09021 was originally Rosso Rubino 106-R-12.
09021 is the 1966 Paris Motor Show car. It was then sold to fashion designer Charles Jourdan.

08769 was NOT delivered with Borrani wire wheels.

The engine block has been restamped.

Steve: Imagine what happens when you run a 4 Cam engine to almost 10,000 rpm in 1st gear, and then push in the clutch.

Catastrophic mechanical failure. The block must look like a piece of Swiss cheese.

Marcel: Back in the early 70s, I serviced what I recall as a 275 GTB/4, silver, owned by Paul Least in Geneseo, NY.
Very minor work, just on the window regulator.
He told me that it was a Daytona but the engine definitely appeared to be a 275-4 cam.
Just a fading memory but do you know the story on the car?

    11001.
Least bought it 1970 via Chinetti from Greg Young of Wilton, CT.
Sold March 1987 by Least to Joe Alphabet in Huntington Beach, CA.

The second prototype for the 365 GTB/4 Daytona (the first one was chassis 10287, the third one was chassis 11795), strictly a styling prototype as the car was apparently built on a standard 275 GTB/4 chassis. Therefore, its official designation was a "275 GTB/4". Body style similar to production 365 GTB/4 except for the nose, which is similar to 275 GTB/4 but with flatter headlights. Had a three-spoke wooden Nardi steering wheel (without slots cut into the spokes). Inside rear view mirror was mounted on the driver's door. Had velocity stacks and a spare air cleaner. Had a radio with an 8-track tape player that was installed in a Daytona style console with Daytona switches.

When I asked Paul where he got the car, he told me that he ordered it directly from the factory, built to his specification.
As I recall, he could barely drive a manual gearbox!
Legend had it that he traded it for a new Ferrari, a 308 or something of that nature but I never saw the car again after I serviced it.
I did drive it and it seemed to be in dire need of some alignment work. I could not keep it in a straight line.

I guess Least Auto was in a bit of " Aqua Caldo!

In March 1987 chassis #11001 was sold by Least to Joe Alphabet, resident in Huntington Beach, CA/USA, who paid US$ 200'000, car had 23'887 kms on odometer.
The lienholder was: In Group Ltd., of Reno/NV/USA.
August 21, 1987, I sold #11001 to a Swiss collector who kept it for many years (until I sold it for him 6 August 1996). It later belonged to an Asian collection but has changed hands recently and the new owner wishes to remain anonmuys.
