I know Kumar often buys to resell.
Here's his description of the LP400, seems that Valentino has given it "high remarks":

A stunning example of the Countach in its original LP400 Periscopica form, chassis no.1120154 is the 77th of 160 manufactured by Lamborghini, this LP400 was originally delivered to Canadian importer Eugene Carrie of Ontario in October 1975. The car made its way to the States in 1978 and was acquired years later by marque enthusiast and long-term owner Peter Cohen of Longwood, Florida. His distinguished firm, Ultimate Motor Works and authorized Lamborghini dealer, renowned for quality workmanship, completed a two-year, comprehensive restoration of the Countach to its original condition. No area of the car was overlooked, including the exterior, interior, engine, transmission, suspension, brakes, and air-conditioning, with truly stunning results. During the restoration process, noted Lamborghini expert Valentino Balboni was consulted and inspected this LP 400 on two occasions, and he has given the car high remarks.

Chassis 1120154 is presented in its factory correct Blu Tahiti exterior finish with a cabin trimmed in Bianco (White) and Blu (Blue) upholstery with amenities such as an original Philips cassette player and factory air conditioning. Additionally, it comes fitted with Carello driving lights and period-correct Michelin XWX radial tires mounted on sporting Campagnolo alloy wheels. In the recent years following, 1120154 has resided amongst significant collections and remains in impeccably kept condition both cosmetic and mechanically with only 15,845kms recorded to date. Here is a significant Countach, in its purist form and function, offering rarity, desirable specifications and excellent presentation, now available at an exceptional price this Matching numbers and restored

    1988 LAMBORGHINI JALPA @ Mecum Monterey 2017
    MONTEREY 2017 AUG 17th
    LOT T96
    Vin:ZA9JB00A8JLA12381
    3.5/255 HP
    1 of 410 Produced
    Black/Black/tan

    Estimate $100,000 - $125,000

    HIGHLIGHTS
    1 of 410 produced
Believed to be 25,378 original kilometers
    3.5L V-8 engine
    Weber carburetors
    Gated 5-speed manual transmission
Black leather seats with Tan door panels and carpet
    Removable Targa top
    Air conditioning
    CD stereo
    Alloy wheels
Original warranty booklet and parts manual
Recent service including manifold and ignition wire work
MUST BE SOLD TO AN OUT OF STATE RESIDENT OR LICENSED DEALER

This 1988 Lamborghini Jalpa has a mere 25,378 kilometers (15,770 miles) on its odometer and is one of just 410 examples ever produced. First introduced in 1981, the Jalpa was an exotic two-door Targa that was a lower priced alternative to its big brother, the Countach. The car featured a transverse mid-engine rear-wheel-drive architecture and was clothed in a seductive wedge-shaped body penned by the famous design studio of Bertone. Powering the Jalpa was a dual overhead-cam V-8 engine with a displacement of 3.5 liters that produced 255 HP, mated to a 5-speed transmission with a gated shifter. The performance, by 1980s standards, was substantial with a factory-rated top speed of 150 MPH and a 0-60 MPH elapsed time of 6.5 seconds. Its mid-engine layout and wide stance provided excellent cornering capability as well as a compliant ride quality. In many ways, the Jalpa was a better car than the Countach. While the Countach was designed as a high-speed vehicle with very little consideration given to practical everyday driving, it was tough to get in and out of, had very limited peripheral vision and the mechanical noise from the V-12 engine could get oppressively loud; the Jalpa provided a much more user-friendly exotic-driving experience with grand-touring intentions. It was an easy car to operate. The removable Targa-style top facilitated open-air motoring, and the air conditioning provided occupant comfort. This Jalpa presents beautifully in its classic black exterior with matching black leather seats and contrasting tan door panels and carpets. Model-year 1988 was the last year of production for the Jalpa, and this example has been sparingly driven and religiously maintained, making it one of the finest remaining examples of the breed. This Jalpa comes complete with the original warranty booklets and parts manual.

Maybe putting the cat amongst the pidgeons, but I would not quite Valentino's opinion on any car in an ad without his consent. I know him reasonably well, he would only share his opinion with the person that engaged him to examine the car. Maybe the seller knows him and asked, but it seems odd to me.

I also found it odd that they retained the U.S. side marker lights when doing all that work. I have a Canadian spec 1978 BB 512 which never had those, so it was modified at some point.

As well, maybe someone will get a gift from me, there is a 5000 km DD anniversary on the Emirates Auctions website. If I buy a third one (even at $136,000) my wife will kill me, so:

John, I feel sure you can take the seller's remarks and draw your own conclusions, but I must say, when I read "comprehensive restoration of the Countach to its original condition. No area of the car was overlooked, including the exterior, interior, engine, transmission, suspension, brakes, and air-conditioning, with truly stunning results." I almost sprayed my keyboard & screen with coffee! Anyone who has seen even just a good set of images of this car realizes that the aforementioned description is significantly exaggerated, therefore I was equally surprised to see you describe it earlier as "over restored", if anything, corners were cut in the restoration of this LP400, the retainment of USA side-markers alone are proof of this, with more details besides.

That said, I do agree with you regarding Valentino, there will always be a tendency to associate him with any given car for purposes of selling, and he knows this. Perhaps it will be a good selling point one day when someone is able to say "Valentino once leaned on this car". The seller's remarks that "during the restoration process, noted Lamborghini expert Valentino Balboni was consulted and inspected this LP 400 on two occasions, and he has given the car high remarks" don't really mean anything per se without a definite signed report issued (he will do that if explicitly contracted) as the high remarks he offered might have simply have been "lovely color".

FWIW I have no affiliation with the seller of this car nor am I (or anyone associated with me) trying to buy it, just making obvious observations.

Interesting, this particular example is for sale since years and moved from dealer to dealer without having any issues on it, it Looks quite clean from the pictures.
I can remember seeing it first pop up at Hyman for $115k.

It looks like a nice car but I feel there is not much of a following for 8 cylinder Lamborghinis here in the States.
I am looking for a restorable Silhouette. Where is the real market on these cars?
