The one consequence of overwhelming power and domination of the sport is mechanical failure. It goes with the territory, outside of actual cheating, haha (How many calories in a gram of oil?). So I have no qualms at all at seeing one or both silver arrows burst a gearbox or pu in a cloud of smoke and sparks, only to let the superior scarlet chassis lead on to victory
Lewis does not have a stellar record here so far,Vettel should be favourite, and then there is Max who surely must have a change of luck soon?
https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/131785/fia-clamps-down-on-singapore-corner-cutting The FIA will take a no-nonsense approach to Formula 1 drivers abusing track limits at the first sequence of corners at the Singapore Grand Prix. Cutting inside the apex at Turn 2 as the track turns to the right gives drivers a clear benefit, so the FIA has moved to deter anyone from trying to gain an advantage this way. In the pre-event note sent to teams on Thursday, the FIA revealed a cone has been situated further down the run-off area on the outside of the complex. F1 race director Charlie Whiting wrote: "Any driver who fails to negotiate Turn 2 by using the track, and who passes completely to the right of the orange kerb element, must keep to the right of the red and white polystyrene block and rejoin the track on the outside of Turn 3."

SEPTEMBER 14, 2017 Pirelli chief tips Ferrari to win in Singapore Sebastian Vettel could reclaim his lead of the world championship this weekend in Singapore. That is the view of Marco Tronchetti Provera, who is the CEO of F1's official tyre supplier Pirelli. The Italian admits that although Pirelli remains neutral, he is happy Ferrari has caught up with world champions Mercedes this year. "Ferrari not only closed the gap but has also proved able to beat Mercedes," he told Italy's Sky. "Ferrari is faster at city circuits where the top speed is lower, while Mercedes has a small advantage when the speeds are higher. "So I think Ferrari can do a nice race in Singapore," Tronchetti Provera added. He also said F1's new owners Liberty Media are doing a good job, with Chase Carey having taken over from long-time supremo Bernie Ecclestone. "Ecclestone did extraordinary things," he said. "Without him there would be no Liberty Media or formula one. "But the new owners have great marketing experience and can do great things, especially in terms of new media," Tronchetti Provera said.
Can't stress enough how much we need to win this. Want the red bulls to do better than the mercs, but not better than us !
The bulge in the fin exits the back for cooling purposes. Mercedes had a similar solution only it exited the top of the fin in an elongated oval
This is going to be a very strong race for Ferarri and Redbull, with Hamilton possibly 6th here. I hope Vettel's PU blows up so Hamilton can retain the lead of the championship, or both Redbulls finish ahead of Vettel to keep the gap manageable for Malaysia which is a Merc track.
