    Hi everyone,

I've been having slight discomfort, i won't say pain, in my lower back this last couple of months. I think this was due to college days, being a waiter and standing for almost 10 hours daily.

I normally play badminton, jog, football, futsal, and even do weightlifting without any issues.

However, this slight discomforts comes on and off. Out of curiosity, I checked at a acupuncture specialist, and after slight checking, he told me that i have 'pinched nerve issue on my lower back'.

he also proceeded to tell me that if untreated, it could leave me unable to walk in the future. I don't buy this part, honestly.

My question here, is anyone can help advice me to treat my discomfort? Or has anyone else experienced this before? I read online that swimming helps.

    Appreciate any feedback.

    Sincerely,
    Brian

I am a MD in US that treats back issues for last 15 years.

    - Get some PT.
    - give up activities that may be exacerbating pain.
-When feeling better slowly reintroduce activity.
    - see a doc that treats this if not better in a couple of months for other options.

Although acupuncture can sometimes be helpful, this Acupuncturist is FOS. Without accompanying leg sx (sciatic sx) prob not a " pinched nerve." Most back pain is self limiting and will resolve. There is really no other treatment for what you describe except conservative.

I've had 2 surgeries for my L-4/5 disc. Skied hard most of my life. The best thing I found was to buy my own inversion table, about $400, and get upside down for just 30 seconds once or even twice a day.
Better than chiro (felt great when I left the office, cost a lot of money, and next day I was back to square one)

    I guess everyones "tale" (not tail! ;)) is a little different;

Mine was "out" many years back in the UK; Buddy was a big believer in chiropactors, whereas I thought they were "failed" doctors. He said he'd pay the consultation fee if he didn't "fix" me.

With nothing to lose, figured I'd give this "quack" a try; Went in unable to sit down. Literally *danced* out of the place after he "tweaked" me back into shape! "Crack, crack, crack" went my back - Man it felt good! Obviously became a believer!

Subsequently, here in the States, when it's popped (and I know when that's happened!) I've had great success with chiro's.

The "problem" is they fix you right up the first time, but any subsequent visits turn into "you've gotta come back twice a week for the next XX weeks!" No thanks!

My current guy is a licensed MD (great for prescribing pain killers prior to a long flight ;)) but became disgusted with "medical practice" and went to China & studied acupuncture. When I'm ****ed he sticks needles in the most bizarre places (ankles, ear lobes etc!) and then tweaks me back into shape; I've no idea if the needles help the process, but he sure as hell fixes me right up...... YMMV.

    Good luck, back pain *sucks*!

    Cheers,
    Ian

Thank you very much my friends.

Truly appreciate the insights. One quick question, does swimming, generally helps back issues?

My wife has back problems and consulted several surgeons but has not gone that route yet since the outcome is not guaranteed and repairing one area might stress and cause another area to give problems down the road. One surgeon fitted her with a back brace that she wears when pain occurs and provides good temporary relief. Insurance will usually cover a brace if prescribed by a doctor. She also applies ice packs which also helps mute pain.
