    5 urracos is a record!
since you have SOME experience with them: is true the P300 is SUCH A WAY better car? ( chains, performance ,ecc...)

    they are so undervalued cars

a friend is restoring a rare P200: will post pics

  4. What's a quick run down on the different versions, both euro & US?

The famous car from Geneva, was once for sale at Lamborghini Geneva. The last one (red P250 with sunroof) has the P300 front bonnet.

Great looking car. The Urraco grows on me more and more, especially now having a little extra passanger at home now.

Being a big alfa lover I couldn't help noticing the 2600SZ in the background. Lovely.

I know almost nothing about the P300, but it does have some significant performance gains over the other two models.

Raymond - Hi. You are right, of course - the red car does have a P300 bonnet lid, and now I think about it, I'm not entirely sure that this car is a P250 after all. I'll have to check it out with someone at the LCUK club.

Emilio - Hi. I can vouch for the fact that the P300 does indeed deserve its superior reputation for both reliability and performance over the 2 1/2 litre car. There were significant changes between the 2 models. The later car has the larger engine capacity due to an increase in stroke from 53.5 mm to 64.5 mm, revised cylinder heads with a quad-cam set up and timing chains instead of belts. The P250 used the Heron head principle, whereby the combustion chambers were sited entirely within the piston crowns, wherby the P300 has flatter pistons and a more conventional system of combustion. Dimensions of the body were also altered - the 3 litre car is 35mm longer, 20mm narrower and height was increased by 45mm. The car is clearly quicker than the P250,; the significant imrovement in low-end torque makes for a much smoother drive.

Earlycat - The US cars were a big disappointment. They were thrown together towards the end of the Urraco production run and labelled as Tipo 111's. They are exclusively 2.5 litre cars with assorted interiors, and suffer considerable power-shortage due to emission controls in effect at the time. Most if not all US cars had the later rubber bumpers, as opposed to the chrome ones that were supplied with all early Euro-spec cars. The roadholding on all models of Urraco is terrific, but the power is noticeably absent on the 111's. I'd probably rather have a 2-litre Italian spec car myself I think. They are also alleged to be underpowered, but at least they are not artificially strangled by type-approval.

Despite the foregoing, all Urracos are terrific cars in my opinion - probably the most under-rated sports car of modern times. I've had one (or more) for almost all of the last 25 years - I couldn't really imagine not having a Urraco of one sort of another in my garage.

    Best wishes

    David Sherman

Interesting car. I have never seen one before. Kind of resembles the 308 GT4 a bit.
