I did ask this question before and was asked to check the Lambo registry , which I did , and it shows some listed, but does anybody know how many were produced and in what years they were made? Are they rare the SV Diablo ?

Based on what I've read on different forums, the consensus seems to be 425 SVs produced between 1995 and 1999. The US market got SVs in 1998-99. In 1999, the US market got 26 SVs (this is the figure I have the greatest confidence in).

Again, these stats are based on what I've read here and on LP and the recent Edmunds article. Maybe Joe Sackey, Raymond (from LT) etc could shed some more light as they know far more about these cars than I ever will.

An exquisite and rare car, sir! The 98-99 SVs and VT Roadsters I still regard as the most beautiful Lamborghinis made. Very special.

why the 98-99? didn't the 99 look different than the 98? isn't the only cosmetic difference from the 96-98 really the wheels?

It's impossible to tell without actually seeing some documents from the facotry, but as an SV nut I've done a lot of research on this and here are my thoughts:

425 SV's is a good guess for total production run (1995-1999)

The US got a handful of SV's in 1995-1996, whie a vast majority in the US are 1997-1998. I my research has also led me to beleive that only 25 1999 SV's made it to the US initially, but again, this is all mostly speculation.

Right you are. Beauty is subjective. Mainly because the Miura was well before my time. Always lusted after Diablos growing up.

Not quite, but I should have said the '99 only. Earlier years had flip-up headlamps and I prefer the exposed look of the 99s. Also the 99s had the 530hp engine instead of the 510-horse of the earlier SVs.

I actually like the look of the flip up headlights better ( when closed or off ) but thats the beauty of it all , everybody likes something different,so the 98 has 20 less horsepower, thats something I will have to learn to live with , but I have been looking into the exhaust driven turbos, not the turbo that goes to the manifold but the turbo kit that goes after the muffler, or right before it ., thats way in the future though. all great info guys Thanks . + XTO your car is BEAUTIFUL!

Not true at all, the '98s had the same 530HP (Variable Valve Timing motors) as the 99's, in fact, 98 was the introduction of the VVT motors for Roadsters and hard top VTs (in 99)

honestly the 492-510-530 hp 5.7 engines are really almost the same performance (i have heard some say they do really make the same amount of hp...+- 15 at best)
the SE30 525 hp is likely the more racy of them and likes more to rev

the biggest differences btw 97-99 are head lights and interior: i personally like pop up lights but the 99 interior is sweet

Anyone know how many of the 25 or so 99SVs in the US had the SV lettering on the side? Seemed to be more common on the 98 model year.

I am pretty certain that ALL of them had it from the factory, many owners chose to remove them, I do not recall it being an option.

I don't think so. I can't find any support for this. 1999 was the first model year to use the VVT engines. They did use a VVT in the '96 SVR only (1 off). But 95s-98s (even SVs) did not have the VVT engines. Researched this a bit and just one reference here from this site for example http://www.conceptcarz.com/vehicle/z1207/Lamborghini-Diablo.aspx

Scroll down to the paragraph beginning with 1999. I find this information reiterated all over.

Don't think I've ever seen anything prettier than this in my life... The black SV lettering on the side would be sick!!

    I still don't know why I bought an F-car.

Well, the info you have is incorrect.

I do not have to 'research it', I was there.

The 98MY was the first to have the VVT, it was introduced at the Detroit Auto Show Jan '98. I have the full press release, magazine articles, etc. plus I was there at the factory (in October '97 when the cars started rolling off the line with VVT). I am extremely confident VVT began with the 98MY (the first MY to be offered for the USA).
