Wow! And of course the Lincoln driver, was at fault and had NO INSURANCE! I admit when I read the title, I thought great some idiot rented a lambo and wrecked it. Really quite the opposite.

Hope the driver is well, but that's crazy damage for that car, makes me wonder what kind of weaknesses exist in the fuel section during an accident.

Well, they are designed to split in two. Rear end holding the engine is connected to the cockpit part of the chassis (around the firewall) with titanium bolts designed to snap under a certain amount of force. That means if you hit a pole side-on you, will continue forward at a slower speed in your cockpit. That would exert way lower Gforces as opposed to the sudden stop a conventional car will undergo as it wraps around the pole.

As far as why so much damage to the Lambo, well I believe the Lincoln pushed the Lambo into the pole just at the right timing, getting the rear portion of the Lambo caught in the pole snapping the safety bolts. I do wonder why can't they have racing quality fuel tanks though...

Internet is full of pictures even of Ferraris split I two.
As BBoy pointed out it a question of safety. The car is designed to do this to save driver and passenger.
Agree on tanks that have to be better.

Exactly. Like Indycar, they break apart, big and small. That is energy leaving the car which is a good thing. The more energy leaving the car, the less you as a driver absorb.

Flaming Lambo shot drink wouldn't exist then...

For me it's sad when the cars split in two. I don't think they can be fixed after that happens, haha. But! when the cars don't split, they usually can be fixed, even after a big accident. Maybe, I'm wrong.

    haha,

Yeah AT first that is what I thought at first, however, if its is a whole piece, the entire car will warp and panels will too, if the it snaps, panels beyond the break line might have a chance. But either wait is ALWAYS sad to see an exotic damaged :'(
