    My car has single stage acrylic/urethane or similar acc to my innhouse painter. Water based paints came later and requires a clear top coat. (There was some small experimenting back in the days) you rub /compound your car. And the rag gets car color, its a single stage paint. Although in a repaint situation. Its all base coat/ clearcoat. Water or not.
