Black Nights is what I'm hearing. Foley wants to tie in his West Point connection, which I respect, but I don't think the name fits very well for the city.

Will they play on/near The Strip? I saw an article about them playing at T-Mobile Arena near N.Y. N.Y.

Yes, it's just off the strip. See the copper-ish dome on the left. MGM built a pretty neat park leading back from the strip to the area with food, bars, etc. too.

If they don't put together a decent team, they will be out of the T-Mobile Arena and end up playing at the Orleans. Las Vegas has a bad track record of supporting non winning sports teams.

I started playing hockey in the third grade. I really hope they can build a good team.

When UNLV was a winner in basketball you couldn't get near the Thomas and Mack, now you could pick any seat you want.

 

XENU. There are some new approaches the NHL will employ to help Las Vegas stock its franchise that will favor the team's competitiveness. This includes the expansion draft (limits on number of players that can be protected by existing teams) and future draft positioning. The NHL employs a salary cap. The LV franchise ownership has deep pockets. One unknown is how lucrative a TV / Cable deal would be but you can bet the ownership is already working on that.

 

I REALLY hope you are right Keith!!!! I have lived in Las Vegas for 30 years. I had season tickets for the Wranglers when they played at the Thomas and Mack.

 

Hope to meet all of the local F-Chatters and expect we will be neighbors at some point. You have a tremendous venue in T-Mobile and I also really like how MGM has developed the area behind Monte Carlo. The new owners know how to run a pro sports enterprise and there is no substitute for $$. I am already getting promotional stuff from M Life for hockey. Joker, the octopus ceremonially thrown on the ice in Detroit is representative of the eight games that had to be won in the old 6 team league to win the Stanley Cup. Teams now need to win 16 playoff games, so the collective intelligence of Las Vegas has to come up with a link to "16" to start its own tradition.

 

I was just out there a few weeks ago and all of my friends who live there seem fairly positive about the whole thing. In these days of endless *****ing and moaning about everything it was fairly refreshing. I'll definitely make my way out there to rock the red with the Caps
