    May I ask whether all of this film was shot above the tree line, or is it so arid there that trees won't grow? Really rocky soil, right?

    Almost the entirely video was filmed on the mountains (very arid weather) crossing from Chile to Argentina.
    You could find desert in the north and glaciers in the south.
    In the center zone (Santiago) you cand find a little of both extremes
