    Hi,
I'm looking for a 84'85' 308 GTS...I'm in Lafayette, LA. and was wondering if anyone in the surrounding towns would have one I can look at up close. My wife said I need to sit in one at least, before I buy one :) .

I've been doing my research and read the buyers guides and talked to a nice guy, Joe, In MS. He'd show me his car, but said there may be some closer to me. We have boat we keep at the Marina in Madisonville and spent a lot of weekends on the boat, so we are in the Slidell/Covington/NO area a lot.

my cell is 337 654 3474....email [email protected]

I would spend the extra few bucks and also look at the 328.

There was a 308 for sale on EBAY in NO a week or so ago but i don't know anything about the car. Used to be lot more 3x8 in the area but a number of them have been sold off.

It's a real buyers market right now. 355, 360, 550 are all out there at some real attractive prices.

    I had a 84 308 and a 86 328 both GTS. Spend a few dollars extra and get the 328.

Man, Yall are getting me confused now :). I've found the prices similar for the 85 308's and the 86-87 328's for good ones....I guess I could get a 328 for the same price, since its a buyers market, it would just depend how bad they want to sell.

The one problem I have with the 328 is the darn console buttons....I sort of like the raised switches of the 308's, they just look cooler or something. Also, do yall think the 328 still has some depreciating to do? Seems like the 308's are done depreciating...but who knows.

But you guys know more than me...What else about the 328 that makes it better, besides the speed...which doesn't really matter to much to me. Does the 328 handle better? More dependable? Maybe I should look at them again, but that darn console :)

    Thanks again for the info.

I'll give you that the 328 did do away with the retro look on the console.

The 328 overall was a more sorted car. As long as you find one that is taken care of it is about as bullet proof and user friendly as a Ferrari can be.

If you like the retro look (& i am a fan myself :) ) I would skip the QV cars and go back to the pre '80 carb'd 308s. Those I see some upside too.

The 308i, 308 QV, 328 are all pretty much bottomed out. I don't see them going either up or down for quite awhile.

The 308 carb cars have been on an slight upswing. There is a yellow '78 308 on EBAY from Sportscar Comp. that looks pretty sweet.

Yeah, I saw that yellow one also...But I want to stay away from the carbs, I'm not tha mechanically inclined :).

I did find a really nice Sera Blue/ tan. 85' 308. 28K miles, all service records, recent 30k service by a ferrari specialist, tubi exhaust, new interior leather, new carpet, HPX crank fired, high performance ignitionsystem (what ever that is) ......pics look great..

Only problem...is the Dang thing is in Anchorage Alaska !!!!....wonder what trucking is to La. :). Is there someone up there to do a PPI for me? if I need.

Then there is a really good 87' 328 with all service records, recent (2008) 30K service, well maintained, with 54K miles.

The guy with the Blue 308 is asking 43K and the 328 is asking 38K.. I think the price for the 308 is hight, Both said, OBO.... Man, Man....decisions decisions :) I have about 15 cars I've got off the computer in just 2 days.

I'm starting to think the 328 may be better suited if it a more sorted out car and would give me less trouble...I do like the front better on the 328.

    Thanks again for the input.

The 328 has a more modern electrical system and a better cooling system. I also found that the a/c although still not going to keep you cool like a modern Honda was improved over the 328. The blue 308 you mentioned seems about 5 - 8K high. and the 328 sounds like a a good price , if the PPIs check out. There are plenty of both models out there just take your time and you will find a good one at a good price. Also check the ads section of this site . I would also avoid buying one over 50,000 miles unless they are giving it away because you will have to give it away if you ever decide to sell. That doesn't mean the car won't last way past 50,000 miles it just means the price crashes once a Ferrari hits 50,000 miles. The price diminishes every 10,000 miles showing. You pay a premium for under 10,000 a smaller premium for under 20,000 , average is under 30,000. Then a price drop in the 40,000 mile range and a big price drop in the 50,000 mile range

    Thanks Sparta,

If it has better cooling and so on, I may just go the 328 route. Thanks about the mileage info. Good to know and will keep in mind. The 328 I mentioned above has 54K miles on it. He's asking 38K. I'm still looking.....that's half the fun:)

Sparta had a 308 QV & 328, CarbBoxster(ha) had a 328, I had a 308 QV and we all spent a lot of time around each other's cars, so hopefully you are getting some helpful advice. Here's mine. As far as speed, a well running QV and 328 are very close, neither being rockets but both are a lot of fun. I personally like the "older" style of the 308's interior and exterior, but that's just an opinion. I think the console is neat and I like the simplicity of the cables. If the cooling system on the QV is working properly (clean radiator, fans working properly, fresh coolant) you should not have any cooling issues with the QV. The A/C stinks in both cars. You sweat on hot days with either. Reliability should be equal on a well sorted QV and a 328. Both are about as reliable as a Ferrari can be. Unless you like to tinker with cars or have a good mechanic, I'd have to disagree with Paul about the carb cars. They are cool and I like the way they sound, but I could imagine they could have more service issues that the tried and true Bosch K Jet mechanical fuel injection system. Also don't disregard a car due to mileage, there are very few true 30K mile 25 year old cars out there. Whatever you decide to go with, a good PPI goes a long way.

Good advice, the cooling system on the 328 uses larger fans however Donny is right that a properly sorted 308 cooling system works fine . With regard to the mileage a Ferrari with over 50K showing on the odometer is worth considerably less than one with under 40K showing

I did ALL the WRONG things, I know...On "How to BUY a Ferrari"...but dang, this one in
Atlanta sure looked good, had all the records, Serviced, and well maintained by OWM or FOA...It does need some new tires and its Red instead of Black...I guess I can get Black next :):).

BEST Part is I got it For 27,800.00 and that will be subject to the PPI at OWM this Friday..

    Lets see:
I never looked at the car...hadn't driven one:)....had to decide in 10 minutes, before the auction was up..Ebay car .....Sniped it at the last 3 seconds of the auction...

Man, did I do anything right :)......Oh Well, what am I waiting for, my next life :)
anyway, I hope it does good on the PPI, which I will be present for..(maybe thats the only thing I'll do right )...

Thanks again, Hope to meet some of Y'all....I'll let you guys know how it goes, Bringing the trailer with me just in case :).

    Cool. Congrats on your ride.

I think you'll be fine at that price. I buy'em to drive em so i don't want a garage queen- you can drive it a lot and won't impact the value.

I think i remember that car. Has the rims on it?

    Hi Guys,
I arrived at OWM in Atlanta and they were already going thru the car. A few things needed to be fixed..a strap for the Targa top....new battery...new tires...change the oil...other than that, Steve said it was in great shape!!!!

I spent about 4 hours with him and he showed me all kinds of stuff about the car, he's been working on them for 25 years and they have a very Cool shop....You could eat off the Floor!!!

Anyway, it was raining and by the time we got the tires back, it was getting near closing and I just loaded it up on the trailer and headed home....I still haven't got to drive it yet!!!

But as soon as I got home, I backed it off the trailer...took me about 5 min. to get used to it and then I ran the piss out of it,:D:D all through the neighborhood :) My neighbors loved the sound and kept telling me to go by faster :). It drives Awesome, what a machine....

I parked it, looked underneath and held my breath....No Leaks...Yea !!!!! I guess y'all all went through this....but do you ever quite just going outside to look at it in the garage!!:)

Another Dentist friend of mine has a Jag XKE, He's been looking for a 328 also, I didn't know it till I went by his house....HE WANTS ONE TOO :):)

Anyway, just thought I'd let y'all know how it went. ONE Question...Trailering it home in the rain, I had the rear of the car facing forward...It leaked a little water, some of the carpet by the door was just damp...Is this normal....the rubber seals seem in Great shape.

    Thanks

Maybe it leaked a bit around the seals for the top.
The front corners and the window to targa seals can leak a little even if they look good.

    I think you'll like the 328- it's a great sports car.

Joining the FCA would be a good idea since the club has been having regular drives and get togethers.

27.8K for an '87 328? What the hell is wrong with where I am looking? I can barely find a 308 for that scratch, let alone a 328....

    good luck!

It was nice talking to you on the phone last week and Im glad you found a car...and quickly too. And its the perfect time of the year to drive it down here too. Nice and cool, windowns down and open road. If you spend any time on this forum you will see some awsome cars that guys have spent years on making masterpieces. You will have the urge to do the same with yours. Take some advice and dont give in to the urge to do things to your car right away. Just drive it and enjoy it for now. Im sure I'll see you at one of the local Ferrari events. On another note.... based on what I pay my dentist Im assuming he owns a nice digital camera. hint hint! :) Enjoy. Joe

    Looks great!

    Have fun!

Go to the Parts Store and cut some protective film for the lower lenses!!!
They are prone to catch a rock and high $$$$!!!!

Griot's Garage has the film, too!
