Merak SS are the preference with interior and engine bay shots. Yes I've done a search but the photos I've come across aren't quenching my thirst. :) wbeaumer I'm expecting to see some of your lovely car. ;)

Walter, what are the key differences? How are US models treated in restoration projects - do they have to be refit to Euro standard to be concours-ready or is US trim considered to be original? Thanks!

    Differences with the US-versions are:
    a. radiator lights in all for fenders
    b. different exhaust system
    c. different bumpers in front and rear
    d. strange panel to cover the exhaust on the rear
    e. some differences with the engine also

I would convert a US-version back to EU-specs but to make it correct you have to spend money for a new paint job and more!

    Ciao!

To convert a US Merak ss to Euro is an incredible undertaking. Even to make a US car look like a Euro car is a huge undertaking due mainly to parts availability/cost. The Euro front and rear bumpers, rear valance, Euro rear exhaust to fit Euro look will set one back $5-$7k in parts alone. It is more efficient to locate a Euro car in Europe and ship it to the US. The Euro Merak ss is a faster car than any 308 except the glass cars.

    Thanks Joe,
That is kind of you to say. I bought the car on my birthday back in 2006. The car and I have the same production month [imagine that...definitley a positive omen]. This Merak SS is a 1980 and had 21,000 mi. when I bought it. To answer your question, the interior is all original and the finish quality is outstanding, inside and out. The car is built like a tank. I'm going to have it weighed this summer. Lastly, lots of fun to drive.

    Ciao,
    George
