    Hello all fellow Mexico Owners...

I am toying with idea of creating a Mexico registry... In part it would
be to catalog existing Mexicos (there can't be all that many - my guess
would be 250 or less)... The registry would also try and cover model
information, parts interchange, and other info...

What is the interest out there for this??

Walter: about how many Mexicos do you show in your database?
Would you be willing to share this info if such a registry were to
be created?.... Obviously, current owner name and other personal
information would be excluded, unless permission received from the
    owner, if they participate...

I am the owner of 074 and thus have a special interest in these cars!!

    Mike

Note: such a registry could work hand in hand with QP1 owners as well...
These cars are very similar under the body!!!

    Good idea.

You have to keep at it: it is like having a child you can't go on strike.

You have to think globally, contact all the clubs with a press release, (feel free to model it on the four language one I have in my Khamsin registry) scour the ads, talk to the enthusiasts among the dealers, particulalrly those that have been around a long time.
    Network network network.

Cozza is likely to retire at the end of the year so get in touch with him asap as Italy shuts down in August. Get to know him and the man who is succeeding him to establish a collaboration and, FYI from next year I beleive you will have to pay for info from the factory so make the most of this year. They will not give you bulk data though: you can ask about one or two cars at a time.

Putting everything up on a website as I initially wanted to do is impractical unless you can do it yourself but share and people will appreciate that and share as well. Of course some just want to take without giving, particularly "greed-culators", just tell them to go to hell.

Oh and back up your database every week: I keep a back up device in another house in case of theft fire, what have you.

    Good luck and best regards,

    Marc

    Hi Mike,

I think the Mexico registry is a great idea, and it would be a great resource. I own 034, which is Portanova's car, and have owned 2 others and know of their histories quite well. There are only a few of these cars running in the states, I would say about 8 that I know of. There are a couple of parts cars of Jacques and that is it. I am restoring mine and have accumulated hundreds of photographs for reference, differences between the 4.2 and 4.7 cars, and the design changes in the 1969/70.

The Mexico's are fantastic cars and so much fun to drive.

Good luck with the registry and let me know if I can help in any way.

    Marc,

I have always wanted to have a build sheet and sales info for my 1967 Mexico 4.7 liter 034, how do I get in touch with Mr. Cozza. How does that work, via e-mail, phone, etc. I speak Italian if this is useful.

    Thanks

    Chris

Chris, the factory does NOT provide this kind of docs! What is the known history of #034?

I own Mexico 396 (light blue metallic/black, 4.2), let me know what other info you want. I've owned the car for almost 20 years and I know the previous owner here in Denver. I believe the car has been in Denver since new or very close to new.

I disagree; as many times I have obtained copies of the build sheets. It all depends on who and how you ask.

Chris: I recommend you send a fax to Mr. Cozza at +39 (059) 590778. I am sure he would appreciate it if the letter is in Italian. Let us know if this works.

    Ivan,
I asked Ermanno and Fabio, the new man in charge, lots of time!

OK, I got many infos from them reg. owners, locations, etc.! But to get a build-sheet from them -lets say of a 300S etc.- is only possible when you are the owner of such a valuable car, or when you acting on behalve of the owner (written statement requested!).

Perhaps with the less valuable (GT-) cars that might be different!

    Ciao!

    Walter,

I think that you are correct that the factory will not provide the information to anyone that asks, but in this case Chris is the owner. We cannot blame the factory for being extra careful especially on very expensive cars such as a 300S.

In addition to the build sheet I was able to get copies of letters between the factory and the original owner of my car plus the detailed technical specs. I never hurts to ask.

    Ivan,

I so enjoy your enthusiasm and positive outlook. I agree, it never hurts to ask and I do know that my car was special ordered through a dealer in Rome with all the works. The car was ordered by the father of Ricky di Portanova just after he inherited 50 million dollars from his deceased oil tycoon grandfather. The car is fully loaded with power steering, air condition as they all had, and 4.7 motor and is completely original except for change of paint color. I will try to contact Mr. Cozza within the week. Thanks again for the encouragement and your great website.

A Mexico with 4.7 and power steering ... yes, that is special !

I had a nice Mexico a few years ago but the lack of power steering made the car heavy for city driving. I am sure your car feels just right.

I personally would like to see an all encompassing registry of at least everything through the GT cars something like is done with the Lamborghini Registry. Who's volunteering?

    Hi Walter,
Thanks for looking up the info, but it really confuses me. I bought the car in the early 90s from a guy named Keith Gainer, and he had owned it for many years before that. I know the prior ownership is correct because I know the mechanic that serviced the car for Keith Gainer for many of those prior years. I live in Arvada, but my name is Jonathan Nelson, not Palmer, and I have never heard of Jim Luginbuhl??!

    Hi Jon,
I found this info in an old membership-rooster from MIE.
It could be possible, that Maserati made 2 cars with the same VIN.....(the 2nd was sold then on the ame custom-carnée!)! Still happened in the mid-70ies!

    Ciao!

    Hi Walter,
I suppose it's possible, but with both of them ending up in Arvada, Colorado, it seems unlikely. I have MIE stuff back to the early 90s, as well as some other local info on Maseratis, so I will do some research and see what I can come up with. If I can figure it out, I'll let you know.

Thank you to all of you for your input...

Especially Chris Rose for the history on his cars!!!!

I know it has been a few weeks since I presented this
idea and am just now responding... I am still mulling
over the idea... If I do this it will most likely begin
in the winter months here in Tennessee... But let's
    keep the information coming here...

    I am attaching a picture of my 074 (I think I posted a picture
or two in a different thread before)... The car is a fairly
early 1967 model with the 4.2L engine...

I will also be adding a post about a front sway bar issue
    I have...
