Hello all: I thought I could not make it but was invited, a great surprise, booked my tickets via Stockholm this morning and get to ride in a Swedish Ghibli spyder. can't wait! I look forward to meeting all the Scandinavians from my native Sweden, the Khamsinistas (and all others!) from there, Norway, Denmark and all those from countries to the south! So who is coming? best regards, hälsningar! Marc
Hi Marc, I'm sorry I can't make it, as it would be a great opportunity to meet you. It's nice to hear that you got a ride to the event, and I promise you wont get disappointed. I inspected the Ghibli spyder on Friday, and it's great, and the same goes for the people that works at the little place north of Uppsala. I got my first ride in a Khamsin on Friday also, 550 km. to Norway, while the owner of the car drove a Volvo. It sure was a great inspiration to start the work on my own in the winter/spring. The Khamsin got the new set of shock absorbers that we made in UK, and they worked great. Some minor details has to be sorted out before they will be ready to order directly from the company in UK. At least two cars will attend the event from Norway, and one belongs to a member of this forum, a blue Merak. Have fun! Kind regard Marius
Marc, my babe (THE MIGHTY BABE) and I, we`ll happy to see you in Sweden. I`ll give you a ride in a non-green-soup-car! :) Ciao! Walter
I could only go if the meet were located in the town of Inglorious Bastad, Sweden - so, sorry I can't make it. lol
Hello Marius. Very sorry to hear you can't make it but glad you got to enjoy that Khamsin on the way home each km of that long trip must have energized you for your restoration project (not that you need energy as you obviously are very committed!). Godspeed on the work and keep us abreast of it in the Khamsin forum! Yes anything that comes out of Alunda is absolutely top notch, no doubt about that: I will post photos and road impressions here after the trip. Walter I look forward to see you up there (and your lady friend too!). Achtung: remember schnapps and Skane Akvavit drinking only AFTER Merak driving, Ja?! Anybody else? From what was discussed months ago I think there will be a good number of cars from northern Europe, logically. best regards, Marc PS desert dawg: It is actually spelled Bastad with a small circle above the a (my keyboard does not have it) so really nothing to do with Hollywood nonsense
Yes Walter, but this is a real Merak, with green blood I spoke to Gabriel at a local event here in Norway in May, and he told me he was going to attend. His nick here is "Merak1974". My Merak is just like yours Walter, a 1980 US SS without green nuts, but upgraded to Euro engine. Best regard Marius
Yep, I will be there... just have to replace the right rear wheel bearings first; will attend to that next week! Cheers, Gabriel
Thank you! Never done it before on the Merak, but looks fairly straightforward and the bearings are standard items which can be sourced here in Oslo; already checked with a supplier. My car is blue. Several pictures of it on this forum, including in this thread: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=139580389&postcount=49 Cheers, Gabriel
Nice car! Blue is all right but you might -cough...cough- be confused with some other blue Merak drivers;-)! Vi ses i Bastad! see you there! Marc
Let us know if you need travel tips: FYI there is a bridge now between Denmark and Sweden so if you land in Copenhagen no need to deal with ferry boats any more, though that in itself can be very enjyable if it is a nice day. best regards, Marc
Walter, You have to assume in 2014 that it will be in Italy for the 100th Anniversary. Would they do it in Italy within 2 years of that event? Joe
Joe, as I already mentioned in my previous post: I am not sure! The Italian Club is quite inactive this days and many remember the glory-days of the "Registro Maserati" that was killed by the Factory almost 10 years ago. The Belgium Club is not much present and the France seem to have 2 (?) clubs. Next year the Austrians are running the event. Perhaps in 2012 the Swiss are back in the boat again....! Ciao! Walter
I think Joe is spot on, the International has to be in Italy, specifically Modena, in 2014. If the Italian club is defunct or not set up to organise such an event then perhaps the executives of the other major European clubs could organise something collectively, to be held in Modena........ Barely a week goes by in 2010 without an Alfa Centenary event here in the U.K - the brothers are worthy of at least one big weekend when the time comes. Wishful thinking?
Actually the clubs probably won't need to organize anything other than to rally the troupes. The factory is going to be running everything as related to a 100th Anniversary Celebration in Modena. The clubs may need to arrange a couple of alternative hotels and maybe a meal or two, but it would be wise to follow the factory's lead. Joe
