Maybe this is a good opportunity to remember the definition of a replica:

"A replica is an exact reproduction executed by the original artist."

Anything else is a fake, or a look-alike or however you like to name it. But there is no such thing as a TERRIBLE replica in this case.

Let`s face it here: to correctly recreate a 300S/350S- or 450S-body that matches 100% the lines of the real thing is one of the biggest tasks in the panel beating business. Fantuzzi was a true genius who clearly understood what he was doing. And his Maserati-years were the very best for him as his later creations for Ferrari doesn`t show the elegant and very balanced lines his former Trident-cars.

And even the much famed Scaglietti made only 1 Ferrari, the 500TRC, that could -IMO- compete with the beauty of a Maserati 300S.

I came across of only 2 correctly replicated 300S that matched for 95% the correct lines of the genuine Fantuzzi-car.

So what can we expect from someone today that makes "replica" or "fakes" of a 300S/450S calling them "homages" or anything silly like that.

    Ciao!

Well, my friends, here we have a "Maserati 450S" entered in September at the Coppa delle Dolomiti by a Commendatore-Agricola team.
Apparently a better looking effort (and therefore potentially more dangerous...).
Of course, I'll be delighted to discover that one of few original cars might be joining my own in Italy, but I doubt.
Does anybody know where is it coming from?
It should be interesting to know how the car was registered at the scutineering in Cortina.
I have nothing personally against reproductions, copies or whatever, if rightly presented as such. I just hope that we are not in presence of a further resurrection of 4507...
BTW, Walter, you suggested here and elsewhere that the engine inside the 350S destroyed and melted in the furnace by order of an Italian judge in Ferrari in 2006 was a rare 12 cylinder unit. Not so. With that foolish decision we lost one of the two surviving dry-sump 350S 6-cylinder unit, given that a third one was destroyed in the test-room by Ermanno Cozza at the time!
    Ciao,
    Franco

    Good replica, made by Giordanengo!
The car has a new engine fitted that exactly matches the original specs! Fitted with correctly replicated transaxle-gearbox!

Some little mistakes (front section) on the recreated body.

    Ciao!

    Thanks, Walter.
Yes, this is a decent looking one. Obviously a lot of money went into this project.
I just hope they will not claim some real identity later...

Caro Franco - oh, I oversaw this last line from you.

I am surprised now as Sig. G. claimed to me that is was a 12-cyl.-350S-engine that was scrapped! Did not know that this was a 6-cyl.-engine with dry-sump.

Yep, Cozza ruined one engine - but this was many years ago (as far as I know).

    Ciao!

    HI Christian,
    good to see you here!
Yes, I like it - but I discussed the one issue I do not like with it with your grandfather: the nose section is too short.

Years ago #4503 when owned in Italy was used for taking measurements. But this car had a shorter nose at that time that came on the car in the very early 60s. Unfortunately this ruined the beauty of the car when driven to victory in Sebring by Fangio in `57.

So your grandfather copied the non-original lines of the front section for his replicars.

Otherwise great looking cars and not one of this so called "450S"-replicas with an Indy or QPI motor and gearbox!

    Ciao!

Possbly copied from the Giordanengo-cars as he sold a lot of stuff to them some years ago. If so, then those Argentinean chaps copied the mistakes on it too....!

I noticed that the fake 450S has a front emblem from a biturbo :D

Because the original should be silver/blue, not cream/blue.

    Christian,

thanks for the clearification. I recall that your Grandfather mentioned something to me about a sale of 450S-stuff to Argentina. Seemed that I mixed that.
