Hello, i am new in this Forum and new in Maserati Cars.... Just bought a 1964 Mistral which i will bring back to Life. I do Restorations for about 25 Years now... starting with Motorcycles and go over to Cars about a few Years ago. Last Project was a 1966 Jaguar E-Type which was sunk in Hurrikan Katrina. I sold this Car to full fill my Dream of an old Maserati. Can someone help me with the Colors which where used original on the Mistrals? Thank you for helping Roger Image Unavailable, Please Login
Roger, Ivan (a member of this forum) has a list of colors on his website. www.thecarnut.com http://www.thecarnut.com/Manuals/Paint/Maserati_GT_factory_paint_codes.pdf Joe
Thank you Joe, i have print it out.... did you know if the two ear Locknut of the Borranis are only used on very early Cars or are they used on a Mistral too ? Roger
I have never seen two ear knockoffs on the Mistral but you never know!maybe it was a costumer special order Jacques
found this Photo in the Net.... i am a little confused , because just see 3 Ear Knock offs... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Welcome to the "madness" and pleasures of restoring an old Maserati and welcome to Mchat. My 3rd Maserati was a early Mistral Spyder #057 with covered headlights. I bought it for $6,250.00 standing on a corner in downtown Seattle. That was in 1977/8. It had 3 ear K/O's. Ciao, FGM
Hello, does anybody knows how the Doors came off? How i came to the Doorbolt, or does they came off unscrewing the bolts inside the Doors? Does the Engine came out as unit with the Gearbox, or does the Gearbox get off first? Thankx Roger
All of my door hinges were welded on, I just popped out the pins. Mind you that was no easy feat. Those pins were stuck.. The engine can be pulled and returned with the trans on. Its a bit long though, and heavy! Youll need to be careful when you put it back in .. The transmission in these cars comes out through the cockpit, it is not possible to install from underneath. Mistrals are fairly small cars, its a pretty tight fit all around. I hate to say this, but some of your body panels should be made out of aluminum. This is great for weight savings! But hard on restorers, as the aluminum panels react poorly with the steel sub frame. With a proper resto you might need to pull some of those panels off, repair them and tend to the supporting metal frame. Have fun!!!!
Hey Jon, yes, i know... it is the same Story as on the old Astons. There is a lot of Work to do, but this drives me... have add you a Picture.... everywhere the Water can flow away there is rust but only on a few places. Did you know if there are aftermarket Steelsheets as for the Front ? Roger Image Unavailable, Please Login
Does someone can post me a Photo of the Front part shown that i could make a reconstruction of the part? Thanks for helping Roger
Top one is from #1110 the bottom from # 1216 Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thank you very much. Did you can give me a closeup where the posts for the Hood are? Is the Fold in the rear open to build a Chanel...... do you have a Closeup of this? Thanks for Helping Roger
Roger, attached are some photos from my Mistral. The hood pins are threaded shafts that go through the trough in front of the radiator. They are secured by a nut on top and a nut underneath. Besides the holes for the hood pins are three drainage holes. Possibly these were blocked on your Mistral which led to the heavy rust condition. Someone with a Mistral with the hood removed could take much more descriptive photos. Good luck, Larry Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hello FGM, i would be lucky if i could bought it back in 1977..... i just dream of them back then Thank you for your welcome greetings... Roger
Hello Jon...? I have taken all surround Parts from the Engine Bay.... have found out it is easier to disconnect the Gearbox from the Engine and take out the Engine first.... so you can take it out straight and you have much more place.... Thank you
Engine is out ! it was much easier to disconnect the gearbox.... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
hello Roger(Dosombres)... Keep up the good work and please continue to keep us posted... In your most recent picture, I can only see one coil... Is that correct, or are there two?? My 64 Mistral (109.102) has two... Mine is a project that I will get to when I have some of the others done.. But if you need pictures or information, I might be able to help... Mike
Your view of the engine is interesting as it appears that your engine pulley is one used with the air conditioning setup. Did your Mistral come with air conditioning? Elliot Siegel
Hello Elliot, yes it has an Air Condition, but i don't reinstall them. If somebody is interested i will sell it with all the Parts and Brackets. Roger
