Hi Interesting example. Likely also very rare car too as it is the least loved "4 door" - not a quattroporte IV but a 4 door biturbo. I know nothing of these and did not know they were in the US also.
1989 was the last year for Maserati in the US until the Fiat cars, but it was the first year for several major improvements to the Biturbo, so the 430 and 228i are considered the best of the bunch here. A good one goes for about $8-$10k, the same as a good QP3. My son bought a twin to Mitchell's car a few months ago. I suspect the QP4 would not have done well here. It looks too much like the Olds Achieva that came out in '92.
no marks on body that I remember. interior look new. runs and drive well. paid $4,000 plus $1,000 freight
Love those cars! Had several late Biturbo's and they never let me down. And the mid-range punch is unbeatable!
Looks nice, post some more pics. As long as it was looked after for the most part, they're great cars! And man, those twin turbos are fuuunnnn once they spool up, just watch your right foot in the corners!
so far so good. I need a license. insurance Co. is causing a problem. to low a value for a collector car
If this is your first BT then just like all the belt driven Ferraris don't wait too long before determining the actual status of the cam belt and the ENTIRE tensioner mechanism. That includes the water pump. It's not that expensive or hard to tackle but waiting too long certainly can be. There were a few upgrades for the earlier cars in this area but the 430 was already up to date. Biturbozentrum on Yahoo has a lot of tech info and people who've been around the block and into the garage a few times with these cars. It's not really quite the social chat website like this one but some of the same characters around here are over there as well.
Re: Maserati 430 Hello Mitchell - hope things are on the mend for you - that treatment can be pretty rough for sure. Now onto the 430 subject. These late 2800 cc Biturbo's are a BLAST to drive - suggest adding some thicker sway bays and you then have a sweet handling rocket both in/through/and out of the curves. They are extremely nimble and quick; have room in the back for the kid and the dog; decent trunk - and a slightly notchy but nice 5 speed manual transmission - let it warm up well before trying quick shifts into second gear ! Interesting that 32 years later Maserati decides to go (again) with a twin turbo V-6 - Alejandro de Tomaso got that right - back in 1982. Cheers, Colin
