I didn't even know they made such a thing. I guess I've never seen a V8 without AC. From which parts manual did you get this image?

    Hi,

An option might be an electric compressor like they use in hybrids and electric cars....probably would be cheaper than the original bracket and pulley if you could find them. Might be a better looking solution too if compressor could be located out of sight.

    Has anybody done this?

I have a early Ghibli parts manual that shows it on table 6

    Ivan,

It's on Table 6 of the official spare parts catalogue.

My car was factory made on special request w/o any air cond. and P/S.

So I do not need any kind of air cond.

But just would want to avoid to keep the original compressor that is only used to be a rely for the w/p pulley...

    8kg for nothing...

    Eugene, Ivan,

My catalogue shows both the 4.7L and 4.9 versions on it.

I've even never seen spare parts catalogue for the 4.7L only.

You are correct, it is right there in the parts manual. I have never seen a Ghibli without AC but the factory had a solution if an owner did not want AC. I learn something everyday.

I wonder if you can take the guts out of an old AC compressor to reduce its weight and use this to drive the water pump.

Might as well go with an electric water pump as well then though I expect that this will adversely affect the the car's value.

It's a screwball design that many a Maserati owner has struggled with over the years.

    Roberto,

The Factory design keeps the original w/p.

There's a particular support and a different pulley.

    That's (quite) all !

However, my car was factory delivered w/o a/c and w/o p/s.

    + Many other special features.

So, I guess that what could affect the car's value would be to put an a/c...

    Mmmmmhhh.....

Is it that hard to find out these ???

THought "verybody" with non-air cond cars wanted to get air cond, and so, logically there should be "many" parts like the ones I'm looking for on the market !!

    ;-)

Your car is the first Ghibli I have heard that was delivered with A/C. Therefore ... yes, this part is going to be very hard to find.

    Without...

The availability of being w/o a/c is however confirmed by the spare parts manual, isn't it ?

Yes, sorry I meant to say "without"

I agree the parts manual shows it but I have never seen a Ghibli without A/C. Yours is probably one of only a handful built without A/C. Has anyone in this forum ever seen another one?

    Ivan,

No P/S too, and even w/ a more direct rack ratio !

The no A/C is fine with me since I never use it (compressor rattles too much) therefore it is just extra weight. On the other hand I really like the P/S on the Ghibli as it makes the car significantly more enjoyable to drive.

Looks like your car was the hot rod version of the Ghibli .... designed to go!

Yes, it was ordered exactly for that by a well-known French pilot and Maserati Mecena !

I also have 2 friends of mine who put out the air cond. system.

No limited slip differential, no air box but grilles on the air horns, more direct exhaust (my car is nick-named the Tupolev in my village !!!), no bumpers over-riders, 3 straight positionned exhaust tips to recall the SSS badge...

And the more direct steering wheel ratio is something...!!!

Great to go at 290kph on the highway but the hell in town !

It was not really a barnfind, but belonged to the same 2nd Owner for 40 years. And was unknown to everybody.

Even if there was evidence in the Thépenier archives of its existence, but w/o knowing anything about what she became.

I would spend the money and put A/C on the car and for that matter i would put on power steering as well, Pretty hard to live without P/S or A/C these days. And the fact that it was ordered without these options is still going to negatively affect the value when or if you sell it.

My car will be restored as it definitely left the Factory.

Besides, I guess that today, people who buy Concours cond. cars do not buy them to use them.

Don't you call them in the US "trailer queens" ?

It really means what it means.

    So, air cond, P/S...

Instead, they appreciate all that makes them unique.

If you wanna put a sunroof, privacy glasses, automatic gearbox... on your car, just do it.

But mine will remain respectful of the origin.

    Just like my other cars.

And the time, energy, passion love and abnegation spent on it, don't give me the envy to use it on some rainy day, or by 40°c.
