Here are some photos I took today of a 4 valve Merak engine for a Ligier. From Modena Ciao, FGM Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
on ebay, FR. in 07 for $35,000. at the same time at the team Merak and Bora. thanks to our new coming Presidential possibility my Business had dropped 50% or I would have purchased the motor. those were the days. not sure how many have been following my Cancer thread but I got the news that I am in remission after two and a half months, home run! had I stayed with the same DR. I would have been dead.
I don't know much about Huy Ligier and his cars, but if he had Maserati dvellope these heads the plans for building JS-2's must have been much more voluminous than what the outcome was, and there must have been quite an outlay. Maserati was always strapped for cash, but how could a small French manufacturer afford this kind of work, and why didn't Maserati use these heads in the Merak? Agree with Bob, the heads are huge, but so are all other twin-cam heads of the era. Best, Jack.
Hello all, These were not for the road going Ligier JS2's but for the competition Group 4 versions. There were all sorts of special engine versions, both fuel injected and carburetted. See the Ligier chapter in my book. Best regards, Marc
Marc, It's hard to see any of the engines in the photos. Is the blue one on page 440 using this engine? There is so much going on in that engine bay! Maybe I missed it but the purported HP & torque was? I also suspect this might not fit in a Merak or did they shoehorn one in once? As indicated in the text accompanying that picture they had cooling issues because of the tight fit.
Hi Bob, Are you not in Modena? Not many have made the trip, the factory told me only 60 classics are entered... Yes the photo on page 440 came to my mind too Just a bit crowded under the hood I think it was more or less 400hp but I would have to ask Michel Tetu the head engineer in those days. if you read his interview and that f Beaujon it should be stated as well as in my chapter. It was quick if not relaible don't forget Gerard Larrousse won the Tour de France in it once and would have won a second time but did not finish. No never been put in a Merak, not at all would be fun though I know someone in Monaco who has the largest two valve set up on his Merak, they fill the cylinder Best regards, Marc
I've done the Maserati Modena thing twice already and back then it was almost ALL classics. The old factory too. So we decided to spend our shekels on other things. I prefer smaller events these days. But I am looking forward to hearing all about what's transpired and I'm certain most will have a great time. Hard to not in Italy ... It looks like some interesting stuff has come out of the woodwork for this event. Too bad I missed the Thepenier Bora. I'd love a ride in that one on the track. A lot of the other stuff I've already seen multiple times over the years.
