I came across this OEM tool kit and was wondering if any of you can identify the model car/cars it goes to? Ciao, FGM Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Agreed ... either Bora or Merak. Interesting that the open wrenches are black oxide. Normally I see them with a cheap zinc plating. Ivan
Well here's the parts book version: http://www.eurospares.co.uk/userImages/117/Large/117_041.gif How does this compare with a QPIII tool roll? http://www.eurospares.co.uk/userImages/130/Large/130_036.gif Anyone have any actual photos?
I am thinking this kit is for a Mistral. But jury is still out. One clue could be that stickers on the hammer and other tools show that they were from "Micars" a Maserati dealer in Modena during the early 1980's located out on via Emilia Ovest. Ciao, FGM
It is stamped 500 and the writing on the tools say, "DIN895 followed by the words "Drop Forged" What do you think? It is not often, perhaps once every 20 years that a tool kit falls out of the sky and lands on your doorstep (via fedEx) So it would be nice to know what it actually fits. Due to the plastic handles on the screwdriver and the pliers I doubt this was in a Mistral or early Bora. It certainly could be a late Bora Merak or QPort III. I have seen the black finish on the wrenches on some mid to late 3500's as well. I do have a complete original tool kit for a QPort III that is similar. I will post a picture later
To refresh your memory, here is a photo of the original tool kit shipped with AM101.708. In this photo the wrench has a word I can't make out and the word Valladium FGM Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Oh yes Micars! Jim Johnson and I stopped there in 86. We ordered up a crap load of parts and the only thing that never showed up was my toolkit! So you've got it! Ok Frank, it's mine! LOL .
Frank, it's Vanadium which is a chemical element added to steel to make it ductile, stronger and last longer to corrosion. Common today, with most tools being made of "chrome Vanadium. FYI Thanks for sharing your kit! Ciao and best! Trev
Frank I believe your tool kit is one of the best, complete and most accurate I have seen for the 3500. I wonder why it has ten wrenches. The book only shows nine. As we all know with Maserati the did different things with each car. SO please advise what the size is on the tenth wrench. Also I believe most of the early tool kits had a 450 gm hammer which was also on the top. One other part I have seen in a couple of tool kits I have had is a thermostat bypass. THis is not shown in the parts book with the other tools. I have seen at least two other types of wrenches in the 3500 tool kits. One type was Zinc plated and the other was black oxide much like the new tool kit you have but without the din 895. The din standards were put into effect in Germany in 1974. some companies may have used the din before that but that would be hard to track. FYI attached is a picture of the QPort took kit I have which I believe is from a 1985 car. Image Unavailable, Please Login
The answer is very simple. There are two 10mm wrenches. Giuseppe was a little off that afternoon. FGM
This is the tool kit from a USA 1980 Merak SS. What are the two gold cad plated rods? Ivan Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Maserati put those rods in the tool kit for some reason .... why?? And why two? Where are the Merak experts? I have another tool kit wit these same rods. Not sure if it came out of a very late Bora or a Merak. Ivan
Just thinking; what is the metal/alloy composition of these rods being protected by the cad plating? Welding? Regards.
What's at the loop end with the rubber or plastic insert? A better photo of them might help us guessers?
This set was with my Indy 4900, 1973. The Wrenches has the name "Lario" Image Unavailable, Please Login
They are hard rubber inserts. The end of the rod does not fit inside the insert so I do not think they are meant to be hooked together. I have another tool kit that has three of these rods ... two are gold cad plated and the other silver cad. Okay Merak experts ... is your turn to show us your expertise Ivan Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Nice kit. Interesting that what appears to be the emergency headlight raise knob is removed and in the tool kit. I normally see the knobs permanently installed on the car. Ivan
Whatever they are why more than one and in the one tool kit three? Something left over for making the car ready for shipping from Italy to the USA? They secure something?
