I am looking for a replacement engine for my 1987 Biturbo Spyder i Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. Regards, Colin
Is the current engine not able to be rebuilt? Does it have to be a 1987 version? Here's a lead for you... http://winstonsalem.craigslist.org/pts/4794053956.html
Depending upon what's wrong with his that might be very useful. But it's carbureted so it's not a swap situation. What a shame they're screwing up that car like that. It will be another failure and then junked. Ignorance has ruined so many of these cars. It may also be very broken usually just bent valves.
...and another... Readily appears you could part these cars out & obtain your motor & associated parts for free. Surprised for what little relative money these bi-turbos sell for! 1984 Maserati Biturbo
My friend has a factory new 2800cc injection engine for sale. Located in Finland, but the seller has the ability to deal worldwide.
Thanks for the feed back guys. I want a 1987 (injected 2500cc) engine or the later 1989 (injected 2800 cc). Mine got fried going up to Yosemite National Park in 2012. I don't think it is rebuildable. Regards, Colin
Try Biturbozentrum - yahoo groups. You'll get some help showing how to turn an earlier engine (carb) which are quite plentiful into a FI version using what you have. I assume fried means it overheated?
Yes it overheated - got stuck behind some guy in an old Volvo crawling along (about 20 mph) up the long upslope with no road shoulders and lots of twists and turns so I couldn't see what was coming the other way - and the temperature just kept on climbing. In retrospect I should have stopped and done a U turn no matter what I couldn't see coming - but not knowing the road and how far to go until I got to a passing point - kept on to the detriment of my very nice little spyder I. It 'died' at the Park gate. Cheers, Colin
Wow, that sucks! Sorry to hear that story. It seems like there are a lot of Volvo drivers that drive slow. I have no idea why. I noticed when there's a person holding traffic up or going slow, good chances when you finally get up in front to see who's holding things up, it's a Volvo. Either a Volvo or a Dodge Caravan. Seems to be those two makes......I have no idea why. Anyways, back to the topic......I assume you've seen this engine on Ebay? Looks pretty complete and they are asking $900 or best offer. Kinda scary though since it looks like they're offering no warranty. You get an extra transmission with it though! Well ... I know of a big big Biturbo spider fan in the Pacific NW that bought one of these Japanese import engines, a 4 valve 2.8 liter. He ended up rebuilding the entire thing because it was such a mess. So Caveat emptor. I can supply a reference for this story too.
It's been suggested to him already. David suffered a horrific auto accident back in October and as of two weeks ago was still in the ICU. The reins of his business have been picked up by someone but I don't know how active it is.
Eurospares used to quote these and other Biturbos motors as available new from the factory. I almost bought a new QPIV V8 for 4K euros back in 2006. I imagine everything has gone way up by now.
Hello Mitchell: I have a 2800 cc injected engine so far - it turns over but I have no knowledge of it's past. Not sure what is involved in swapping a 2800 into a 2500 car (at least both injected versions). I take it you bought those ex-Japan engines. Cheers, Colin
the other injected. mi have no idea what motor. I will have to find out. if you have any interest. I am sure that that these motors did not come from Japan.
