I just bought a new to me 09 GT S with the F1 transmission. I drove a local car this week (which turned out to be an absolute dog) and was quickly on the hunt for a proper example. I found a perfect, one owner Nero Daytona on red car in California which I was able to snap up for a seemingly great price.

I'm trading my 993 911, and will enjoy this GT as a second daily driver. As a plus, it has more back seat room than the 911 for my two boys.

I'm really looking forward to delivery, and learning the pros and undoubted cons of the 599 F1 tranny.

I'd welcome any tips from owners. It's my understanding that this car is pretty rare.

    Wow,
Great colors, on a great car. Please keep us posted on all your feelings, and experiences on this one. I'd love to snap one up myself.

Great car in every way. I would admit the paddle shift takes practice. But shortly you will be shifting up and down like you're running the Monte Carlo.

Our cars look really similar. Mine is Nero Daytona on full red leather.

I noticed in your garage thread you mentioned that you had the window trim done in black. Can you elaborate?

Also, my car has 29k miles. What are owners seeing as both clutch life and replacement costs?

I think the clutch is good for 100K in good hands making reasonable gear changes,
But given the power, a donkey can smoke the clutch during one ride. same with the 456.

In regards to the window trim - I had it made by Maserati in black - all the 2009s were chrome then changed in 2010 to black - I also changed the mirrors and door handles to carbon fiber - I'm sure you could have a good body shop take off the trim and paint it - probably not cheap but cheaper then getting it from Mas
I only have 13,000 on it so i have been fine so far on clutch

You are going to love it - great price point for a really well handling GT - kind of a hidden gem -you will be surprised how it handles winding roads - the only problem I have had (and I have run it hard) was oil leaking out of the rear - turns out it was a $1.09 O ring where a temp sensor was - great sounding
I paid full price when new - got the last new one in the US - but you guys are getting a real deal - most people don't have any idea of the great characteristics of this car - definitely under the radar

Yes I have bought three cars from them the last 2 years. They have been fair and very accommodating to me which I appreciate. No issues with any cars from them I hope the trend continues.

I was VERY close to buying that car. Congrats again. Let us know your thoughts once you've got some time behind the wheel.

Probably a dumb question but does the F1 transmission on these GT's have a fully automatic mode? The closeup pics I've see have only a "1" and a "R" button for the transmission.

I'm pretty sure my wife would prefer to drive in automated mode but I'd like the F1 style shifting. Can one have their cake and eat it too? If so, what is it like to drive in the automated mode? Is it herky-jerky and going to make wifey mad or smooth like the ZF in the regular Masers?

I'm a manual shift guy myself. The GT is my first paddle shift car, and it took a couple of months before I thought I was shifting well, a year before I would claim expertise. You can use the full-auto mode to get around until you learn the paddle. I allow others to drive the car in automatic mode so they don't break anything. My wife likes the automatic mode; I like it when I'm tired.

how's the quality of these GTs, and how about maintenance costs, not so close to Ferrari levels I hope?

Do any on you guys with the 09 GT F1 have ever driven an early model QP and if so how would you compare the shifting in between them?
Could any of you please take a picture of the TCU (located on the truck, passenger side just ahead of the battery) part number so I can compare it with mine?
I have a 2007 Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT with the F1 transmission and I have been trying to make it shift faster, more aggressive.
I looked into updating the transmission control unit software with F430 or 599 yet no one seems to have been able to figure it out.

I have to agree, when I first got my QP with all of the chrome trim looked outdated. I went though the trouble to color match all of the trim and I think that the end result speaks for itself.

Yes it can be run in full automatic like all F1 cars and if I am not mistaken it has a very similar transmittion as the 599 but don't quote me on it.

Thinking about something similar but not that extreme. I was going to look at having the badges powder coated black or to match the wheels on my car.
