Hey guys, I found a nice 2008 granturismo for my wife and had a few questions since I am seriously thinking about pulling the trigger. What is the clutch life for the f1 trans? For some reason I came across something that said these don't have clutches and this got me totally confused. These aren't automatics with torque converters are they? Does it require a belt service similar to my ferrari and what are the service intervals? Anything I should look for when buying?
Only a handful of 2009s have a manual transmission, with a clutch. The rest have automatic transmissions. Don't let the paddles fool you. Look for an automatic shifter. No timing belts anymore, just chains.
Wow I had no idea it was a torque converter. This is actually great news as my wife can only drive automatic and I didn't want to have to worry about premature clutch wear with the F1 Automatic. I also wasn't aware they made any manuals I've never seen one anywhere but I'd love to own one for myself as I have no interest in automatic (f1 or torque convertor). Do the chains require any replacing or servicing?
I could be wrong but I don't believe there are any manual '09 GranTurismos. There *are* 300 '09s with the F1 (2 pedals) transmission out of the Ferrari 599.
Thanks guys. I think I have what I need. Going back on forth on pulling the trigger since it's the color my wife wants but the timing isn't perfect for me. I absolutely love the styling. Decisions...
The automatics have internal clutches/clutch packs. Driven carefully, a clutch can last 250k miles; inversely, a hot-clutching, tire-burning, wild-man can spend one in ten minutes. The gearbox is what you make it.
AFAIK, only the 2009 Gran Tourismo Ss have the same F1 as the F599 and are considered the most desirable. Non-S and years following 2009 all have the ZF true automatics.
I strongly recommend one. The sounds are amazing, the shifts are perfect and the looks are even better.
Any cam variator problems? I'd heard that the Masers were prone to that. (also, we live in Oregon, so naturally my wife's pushing for a Tesla over a Maser).
Good to know. Thanks. ( I also noted that another way to tell the F599 gearbox-ed cars is to look at the stitching on the seats which goes crosswise instead of lengthwise).
Yes. The seats are completely different in the F1 cars. Here are mine. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Joined the club today fellas. Purchased a white/cuio Granturismo for my wife. We both love it what a sexy car. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks guys. No its a 4.2 from 2008 but we are so happy to have found the exact color combination and the car is absolutely mint. It's amazing how few were available in white with the dark tan interior. There was a 2013 with only 7000 miles next to it and this one looked to be in better shape. Wow it's a beautiful machine and the sound is just yummy.
