Finally got her home, 19k miles Rosso Mondiale on Black alcantara, I'm super exited to star the new project. I have a couple sports cars at home yet I either never get to drive them or drive them during the week by myself. I find myself driving during the weekends our Range Rover or the Quattroporte which I loved but could never get it to shift faster. I hope to find on the GT-S an sports car that I can get my wife and boy in. My goal would be to get her somewhat closer to the European market MC Stradale. Items that I would be working on: -Carbon brakes -Carbon seat (I got a pair of Ferrari Challenge Stradale I'm going to fit in) -Lighter battery -Isolation removal -Catalysts delete -All fluids drain -Peal all window film off -Air intake/filter -Fire extinguisher behind the driver seat -Red alcantara interior bits -All/most available aftermarket Carbon parts -All chrome delete -Wheels and tires -ECU tune -All LED lighting -Stripe? -Weighted the car with a full gas tank -Raised the car and cleaned under it, splash guards, brake calipers, side skits, etc. -Completely disassemble the interior, now taking some of the panels to the upholstery shop to get the recover on red alcantara -Lifted the carpet and removed 49 lbs of isolation -Surprisingly the original seats are 61/62 lbs each, the CS carbon seats are 30 lbs each. Also disassemble all chrome inside and outside to get it to the paint shop so they can spray them in glossy black. I have everything bagged and label waiting for the assembly. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Fantastic car,... but, seriously, seats with Ferrari logo seem a bit out of place in a Maserati, wouldn't you agree...?
Beautiful car but I have never seen the wheels you have on a 2009 F1 car - usually look like this Image Unavailable, Please Login
I am with you, I don't really know why the car had these. I would probably do aftermarket wheels, thinking something close to the Trofeo specs but I am not sure yet.
I have been busy trying to fit some carbon rotors on the front and figuring out what suspension to run. Although I may just get the BBK from Formula Dynamics which I find great I would really like to run carbon all of the way around which I would have to fabricate custom hats front and rear to fit Ferrari part number rotors. We have done this before on Gallardos. I just order drastically stiffer springs front and rear, even stiffer than the ones I installed on my QP Sport GT, will report soon. Updating the thread with some of the progress on the car. -Got some of the parts back from the paint shop -Painted the rocker panels details in black -Trim painted gloss black -Interior Alutex finishes coated in dark clear -Mounted the stiffer springs back on the car -Built replaced the OEM air intake flex house with an aftermarket silicone house -Replaced the 47 lbs. battery with a 5 lbs. lithium battery -Installed a battery kill switch -Relocated the main fuse box and deleted the battery terminals -Painted the OEM chrome tips in glossy black -Working on the sticky interior buttons -Final weight of all insulation removed was 60 lbs. Great job reducing weight - that is some serious work. I know this might come towards the end of your process, but I don't think I've ever seen one with stripes, I bet it could look really nice… do you have a particular "stripe style" in mind? Over the hood & roof? Side stripe? Cheers, - Art
Update: Finally got the interior pieces back from the upholstery shop; it took forever to find the match red alcantara. The material is so death on that I had the cushion on one of the seat redone. I took the panels off and handed to my my upholster, provided him with pictures of the European version of the MC Stradale and here they are. I have already place a single light carpet over the rear since I will be leaving the back seat out and just placing a Recaro seat on the passenger side for my 2.5 year old. It helps that all of the interior chrome trim was painted glossy black and the alutex spray on dark clear. Now working on a carbon fiber diffuser for the back of the car, went with a universal as I din't really like the ones that are made for the car. I was able to bolt it on the back of the car utilizing existing bolts; so I didn't have to drilling any new ones. Sorted all new stainless steel hardware and finish the hardware on black paint, not on the pictures. Here is an update on the front carbon brakes, I will be running Ferrari 458 Challenge carbon rotors and titanium hats with Ferrari 458 road calipers. I had to have the hats modified by adding a center bushing reducing the bore as well as slotting the bolt pattern. I have also created a prototype brake caliper bracket to fit the 458 calipers on the front of the GT-S; which I will be reproducing. I am having the calipers painted on Rosso Scuderia and labels made on black "Maserati brembo carbon ceramic". I'll follow up on the rear later. I wonder how much interest would anyone have to run carbon brakes front and rear on the GT-S? I loved the Euro MC Stradale and was let down when us Americans got the watered down version. Can't wait to see it complete!
I guess that the crowd that would have bought the real MC Stradale is larger than what Maserati of America would have thought; at the least we would appreciate a newer GT-S with the MC Shift version.
Happy to have received the calipers back from the paint shop, added the Maserati emblems and now just waiting for the caliper brackets and the rear hats to get here. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Even after I had it back together with the OEM gray dash trims, I couldn't resist to take them out and get them spray on glossy black as a tip to a fellow chatter. On the last picture it can also be seen the carbon door sills that I have fabricated and the upper door panel trim painted on glossy black.
