The Auctions America part of the sale is shaping up to be a disaster for the family. The sale is a week out. Images are missing for about half the cars, none of the cars have descriptions yet alone vin numbers.

A number of cars are in mid restoration, it is an unknown if all the parts are there to complete the restoration. bidding then becomes a gamble especially someone not on site.

    This sale is being rushed.

+1. I hope somebody out there is going to the TMC-CA tour on Friday and is willing share some photos and VIN numbers. From what I've seen so far, Auctions America is doing a terrible job with this sale.

    From what I know,
there is a Mexico for restoration AM112/1*174.
The other one is in good condition, the white one, AM112/1*216.

Pictures can be seen on the Mexico Registry.

Not sure who in his family is behind all of this but I agree this is a mistake and they should be withdrawn for a redo at a later date. Perhaps the family hasn't done their homework?

No doubt Doug would be terribly disappointed.

Hmmmm, is it me or are the "estimates" way freakin' off? PPP? Unknowledgeable staff?

I'll gladly take a Sebring project for under $20K, please point me in the right direction.

They're auctioning quite a collection of QPIIIs too. The Garnet and red cars "look" decent.

I don't get putting the XJ220 there instead of Monterey? What am I missing. Same for Alfa 8C.

The Sebrings are cheap and a lot of work ...

I was there six months before he past. First time I met him he just purchased the MC12 they had just come out. So you can check that date. We sat at a table off to the side. His dad was there. For those that want to know were the dollars came from. Dad he builds big buildings like the one the museum is in he built all those around the museum. So , I got to see most of the cars. Mexico and Sebring were not there. One of the QP3 is a royal might be the red one as it was being preped for paint. The single Merak is a two digit serial number. There was a later one red. Missing from the sale. Auction Co. Probley smarter the we are. Dad and family had no interest.

Was told that all cars were driven once a month. Well not the track cars. And the white Merak had enough dust to create a desert sand storm. Same with others. MC12 had no dust but we all know what sitting does to a motor like that. Auction starts at 10:30 am tomorrow. My guess. All over by 11:00. They were 145 behind in approving bidders yesterday afternoon. My name was not on any sheet the had and I did the required form a week before

They are slated to go across the block on Sunday.

I think you need a few more Quattroporte's for your collection, Mitchell! :)

I would love to have that Kyalami, but just don't have the room....

This is 107.012. Not listed. There was also a blue one, 107.1084, which isn't for sale either. The only one for sale at auction is a restauration project, 107.1208.

If true these are giveaway prices, terrible....but the RM auction in August will be much better prepared.

Actually considering the condition and unknowns of mid-restoration cars. Both cars sold for far more than I was bidding and way above the estimates. Reality will set in when the cost to finish them becomes apparent and you'll probably see them back on the market.

I've been watching the auction online...
Hammer prices in USD for the 1980's/90's Maseratis were:
Black '82 QPIII: (driven by Mr. Magnon) $8100.
'90 Biturbo Spyder (featured in a Hemmings article) $8300.
'82 QPIII: (Canadian spec, owned by David Carradine) $7900.
'84 QPIII: (wrecked, parts car) $2500.
'80 QP III: (bright red, 80 mph speedo) $10,000.

I don't agree but then I don't follow QP1 pricing in Europe. The BREXIT issue also made those numbers a bit higher over there. That QP1 is a very full restoration candidate but not a basket case. Are QP1 values equaling restoration costs anywhere? The Kyalami has always been a bit of an oddball too. Basically a Detomaso vehicle with a Maserati motor which frankly puts it at something of a disadvantage when compared with the Longchamp for a lot of folks here at least. Though I think the Kyalami is better looking and I like the Maserati engine. Like many of the other cars sold there it's also not possible to register that car in California which makes for a more difficult sales venue.

    Hello Joe, Bob,

I did not really read the bios of these cars and therefore did not know that they were not ready cars and was more commenting on the Kyalami being so rare in the US (what is it three cars?) that I was surprised no one jumped at it but yes different perceptions and valuations an ocean and a continent away. Even though a bit of a mongrel in terms of its mixed origins the Kyalami has a certain appeal and elegance and is a very practical car plus I like rarity in itself.

    Best regards,

    Marc
