Hey guys, thinking of selling my spare gearbox. What is a fair price range? Is it more desirable to Iso guys? Aston guys, or Maserati? Just looking for some input, and as I'd asked if the other thread, will the S/N on the gearbox tell you which car it originally belonged to? Thanks -Ken
Ok. Yes I think via some research that $12-15K is a realistic price. This ones complete and in good condition Also, fitting Aston, Iso and Maser etc helps
I have a couple of these gearboxes gathering dust in my garage. I am curious what you are able to get for yours. When you say it is complete ... you should to be more specific. Does it have the shift lever? if so, which one (the Indy and Ghibli use different levers). Does it have a bell housing? If so ... which one (the Indy and Ghibli are different). Put it on ebay and see if you get any bites ..... Ivan
I believe it's Ghibli bell housing. Ghibli shift lever. It is missing it's dip stick tube. I had a spare in 2012, without the shift lever, oil tube, and it lasted like 45 minutes on eBay, a gentleman in Las Vegas purchased it (maybe $8,250? I'm trying to remember) for which car though I don't remember, this one was set up for DB5/DB6. Do you have a list of everything they fit? I know Iso (Rivolta AND Grifo? or?) Aston, Maserati Mexico/Ghibli/Indy? Are there more? Thanks for the guidance
You should post several photos so that we can see what you have and can best help you identify the bell housing. "I think it is a Ghibli bell housing" is not a good enough description for an effective ebay listing. It either is or is not a Ghibli bell housing. If it is then you have something that is much more desirable as those bell housings are quite rare. You may want to sell the gearbox separate from the bell housing. While all Ghiblis with a manual tranny used this gearbox not all Indy and Mexicos used it. Ivan
Agreed. I just don't know tons about the specific layout on the bellhousings I also have this stored in CA at my friends shop, but I'm thinking of taking it apart and cleaning it all too. Image Unavailable, Please Login
If it helps pin down the species of bellhousing, the Ghibli had 2 different part numbers depending on the type of clutch used. 115TF63571 for the early 9 1/2" twin plate, and 115TF63403 for the late 68 introduction Of the 10 1/2 inch single plate. I would broadly agree with the assessment of value stated by previous posters. GLWS. Cheers. Mark
Woow, I just wish that my Indy 4900 1972 was born with a ZF gearbox instead of the Borg Warner... I guess its a bigger job to modify it, even if I had the ZF. Dont You think so, Ivan?
I once converted a Ghibli spyder from auto to the ZF 5-speed and must say it was a job. The problem is that at least on the Ghibli the mounting points for the ZF tranny were not present. Also the automatic gearbox is wider and the frame is slightly different. The removable cross member (which has the tranny support) from an original 5-speed Ghibli was not be long enough and I had to come up with an alternative. This all can be done but will take some time and patience. Best thing to do is to find an Indy with the ZF gearbox, put the car on a lift and take a lot of photos and measurements. Ivan
sorry it was so late I sold mine within one week. maybe a it sooner. Iso guys want them for the automatic grifo's
I just listed a ZF S5-325 on ebay. I've had this gearbox in my basement for years as insurance in case my Ghibli box went bad. Luckily that has not happened and hopefully it will not happen after I sell this gearbox ZF S5-325 gearbox for Maserati, Aston Martin and Iso | eBay I also have an Indy and a Ghibli (very rare) bell housing.
