Good news on the engine running. It's quite a moment isn't it.

On my 68 Mexico the original radio was long gone, but there was an original looking speaker under the passenger side glove-box which was from AutoVox SPA of Rome (Roma) who also did high-end radios at the time so I would guess that's what mine had. Looking at period photos there looked to be loads of options but a period AutoVox or Becker Europa would look spot on.

Here is a picture (poor quality I'm afraid..) taken from the 1968 'Car' Magazine Mexico road test and it shows a radio as well as a hefty 8 track cassette player placed under it. May have been a factory option or one fitted by the English distributor.

That Autovox with the Maserati logo is in my 1970 Ghibli - definitely original. The units are hard to find (almost impossible with the logo) but they are out there - check on ebay regularly.

Not directly related to a period head-unit but I've just aquired a nice period electric aerial to replace the one on the car with its crooked end. Nice boxed NOS.

    Phil,

See this picture for the Autovox RA183 radio and a Autovox RA191A (with FM).

I've seen it used in a 1970 Mexico (as in factory installed) and Merak/Indy. Been on the lookout for one for 15 years now. Yes, i'm afraid i'm that persistent. And just 6 months after buying the correct model w/o branding, i found one with the branding. Of course.

I'm keeping the maserati branded one. The other is for sale.

    Bart
