Did anyone watch the last episode of the Grand Tour, featuring 3 Biturbos? In a segment where they were doing laps around a race track the cars (except for May's too slow) the cars would loose traction in the rear and as soon as that was corrected the front would break loose. Can someone (Bob S hint hint) explain exactly what is going on there. Cheers Jorge
You'd have to put a gun to my head to have me watch Jeremy Clarkson cover Biturbos again. Oh I might if I could drop a dumpster on him first ...
Oh Bob don't be so dramatic. He didn't crush his Biturbo this time but he did piss on it. Aside from the usual antics there was that segment on the race track that got my attention. I can't think of anyone better to explain, the Biturbo's behaviour, than you. I don'y know if that is typical or contrived. Please take a look. Best Regards Jorge
Take yourselves back to 1982 when the car was first launched. You'd have thought the same as everyone else; great marque, great looking car, great performance and mouth-watering price. What followed was poor experiences for some ant great enjoyment for others.
I had an '87 425i. I remember the boost would come on in a bit of a rush and it was best to be pointed straight when it did. Didn't see the episode but suspect they were provoking the over steer. BTW The car was a barrel of monkeys to drive and I liked it's looks. It did leave me stranded more than once, one time in a very sketchy neighborhood, it was sold at a big loss the minute the warranty had expired.
They were overdriving them on purpose. Notice how there were no problems drifting the 430 between the containers at the harbour. Here´s a real Biturbo drifting video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKUTU_6eMKs
Despite the jokes they all stated they really enjoyed their cars. Remember they're buying the cheapest ones they can find. It's also unfair to compare the 430 to the other cars. It was much improved and it showed in the program.
Just got around to watching this episode. Believe it or not, ALL THREE presenters said they loved their cars! In general they were quite positive about it, and they didn't even mention that one was crushed on their show 10 years ago. Was nice to see something upbeat about Biturbos for a change. Had to right click on that photo of Bill Murray in a 425 and Google search the image...came from this site which values the car at $225,000! You're about $220k off there.
