Guys, lets get some important data out there ASAP... Call out your area and if you have salt on the ground from DOT crews preparing for "snow" today. Connecticut Avenue in Chevy Chase/Bethesda is clear...no treatment as of right now. What about up north? Curious to know if our driving season is truly over or not. LS
Over for at least a week anyway. This crap will melt in no time, but the road grime is going to be significant. Going to need a good rain before I'll get the 430 out again.
Naw, I'll bet I'm at C&C next Saturday as usual, he says shakily while staring out the window, noticing the big flakes have begun to fall.
At 12:30 this afternoon, there were salt trucks staged on I-70 in Ellicott City, but they weren't spreading anything yet. Hopefully, they didn't and won't... - Eric
Sad indeed...actually terrifying. We've been used to warm weather in DC for over a decade and now this garbage...we're typically not putting our cars away until January. And I just got one of the cars all road ready after being out of commission all summer. At least DC roads are still clean including southern Mo Co. SL
Waxpool Rd. towards wegmans/28 is awful. The ramp on to 28W was completely covered. Belmont Ridge Rd. wasn't bad last night. Rte. 7 was okay this morning headed towards Tyson's Corner. Loudoun County Parkway towards 267 off of Waxpool was pretty bad. You guys w/ exotics should keep them in the garage until there's a fairly heavy rain or two. Sent via iPhone
Based on my commute into work: - Salt on 123 at Tyson's - Salt on 66/267 Eastbound onramp @ 123 - Salt on 66 Eastbound all the way to Roosevelt bridge If Tyson's is so salted, guess my exotic driving days for this year are over till we get some serious rains.
Apparently no salt used on roads in West Virginia, at least in the Charlestown area. Rob Image Unavailable, Please Login
WOW!! Rob, were you up with the Porsche guys at Summit for the weekend?? That looks crazy, did you trailer or drive up there??
Drove 360 to SP on Friday and had great day at track. Drove home on Saturday, after they closed the track - no fun coming down the mountain roads on semi slick R 888's. Drove back on Sunday - in my Porsche - as I had a student and didn't want to disappoint him - weather clear, but snow melting caused some problems on track. Last event of the year for Potomac PCA. Rob
Love the Summit Pt pics...well done! Connecticut Ave from DC up to Kensington is clear. Most of Bethesda/Chevy Chase is clear although there is salt on Beach Drive right near 410. Route 29 in Silver Spring has salt crossing over the beltway and north past Route 193. Just after 193 and up to the Donut in Burtonsville at 198 is totally clear though. Would love to hear what Howard County is like... LS
RT 29 through Columbia was salted as well as RT 216 in Maple Lawn/Highland area. In the mornings the roads are still "glazed" due to the salt pulling moisture from the air. I imagine similar states on other heavily traveled roads in the area - as Eric mentioned about RT 40. Side streets and back roads seem to have not been treated. It would be nice to get a rain shower prior to the weekend but it is not looking promising according to the forecast...
I saw a bunch of salt trucks on standby in Leesburg late last night, not sure if they actually put salt down or not? Roads look this am around town like salt was NOT put down. We had a few flurries but that's it. A friend told me the Dulles Greenway WAS salted last night.
DC has treated some roads. Also, there is some light treatment in Southern MoCo here and there. What do Howard and Baltimore County look like?? LS
balt co fine-- no treatments did have snow from about 9pm-12am in northwest county. planning on driving the 430 tomorrow--forecast looking nice!
