I'm flying out to Baltimore Monday for 4 weeks for work and will be staying just east of the Inner Harbor and looking for things to do during free time. Got pretty familiar with the IH during the ALMS/Indy events so I'm looking forward to returning.

I was made aware of the event at Radcliffe Motorcar Company on the 2nd and will try to make it; is there anything else going on?

    thanks!

    Echo that.

It's not a pretty time in the town. Inner Harbor should be OK, but watch the local news every day to see what's going on.

4 weeks is a long time! If you have already done the Inner Harbor and Fells Point, I would hop in your car and cast a wider net. Annapolis is nearby and well worth a visit. I believe they also have a cars & coffee they are on Saturday mornings at the City Dock, but don't quote me on that. Of course there are tons of things to do in DC. If you get tired of the crowds, head across the Bay Bridge to the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Stop by Kent Narrows on Kent Island for lunch and to watch the boats go through the drawbridge, then head for st. Michaels. There is a great Maritime Museum there, you can do a boat tour on the river, and there are lots good restaurants. If you are willing to travel, come up to the cars and coffee in West Chester PA on a Saturday morning, and then head over to the Simeone Museum to check out their incredible collection of sports racing cars. If you check their website some Saturdays at noon they have demonstration days where they pull a few priceless cars out of the collection and run them around the parking lot behind the museum

Cars and Critters car show at Quiet Waters park in Annapolis Sunday May 3 from 8am-1pm. Lots of exotics and euro models. Bucolic waterfront park, park entry fee waived.

Also, cars and coffee at 1 City Dock Annapolis, 8am-noon every Sunday (except 5/3). 100+ cars last several weekends.

Thanks for the feedback guys! We're working long hours during the week so the weekends are the only real free time we'll have but the C&C and Car & Critters sound like great ideas. We have to stay within 50 miles of the hotel so DC is barely doable- but on the radar. Good thing I'm travelling with fellow gearheads!

Oh, please! Baltimore is actually a pretty safe city. If the recent spate of successful multi-million dollar brutality lawsuits against the city is any indication, you're in a lot more danger from the police than the protesters.
And by the way, since when did "protest" = "riot"? I'm downtown every day and haven't seen anything that resembles a riot since the '60s.

Vintage Ferrari Show Saturday May 2 at Radcliffe Motorcar Company in Reisterstown, not too far outside Baltimore to the northwest. Lots of great cars and owner/drivers, some vendors, good food for breakfast and lunch. Not to miss!

So shutting down roads, smashing windshields in police cars and throwing bricks at fans going to a baseball game are considered a pretty safe city?

Well the looting in the name of justice started last night. It isn't called charm city for nothing. But-- Lot's to do at the Inner Harbor and Annapolis. A number of Casinos have opened in MD and Bass Pro Shop at Anne Arundel Mills Mall is good for passing a couple of hours.

I turned down box seats to the Os game last night. In retrospect, it was a good move. I don't think the looters are done in Baltimore quite yet. I suspect that warmer temps and an emotional funeral may trigger more violent protests this week.

Since (like me) you're an aviation enthusiast, there will be 17 formations of WW2 aircraft flying over DC on Friday, May 8 at noon and then on display at Udvar Hazy museum on Saturday. The only flying B-29 is included in the event. I'm going Friday for the flyover.

    http://ww2flyover.org/

3rd week in May the Blue Angels have an air show planned, a full practice day and air show next day May 20-21. PM me if you want to meet-up at my home to watch.

Forty-fifty people blocking each of four intersections is pretty tame, non-violent civil disobedience- part of the price of living in a free society. Despite all the hand-wringing by the media, the cops handled it very professionally and the only "violence" appears to have been caused by about two dozen teenagers who were overturning trashcans and broke some windows- I've seen no confirmed reports of attacks on fans at Camden Yards, and by the time the game ended and they headed out, it was all over. Overall, a lot less dramatic than the UM students who looted and burned cars in College Park after a game.
So yeah, it's a pretty safe city, and I speak from extensive personal experience. Okay, enough of the socio-political debate- let's get back to what really matters- cars!

Not sure what qualifies as "die-hard", but I spend most of my spare time on racetracks, and have driven everything from spec-racers to a couple of Formula 1 cars, so . . .
For various reasons too numerous to mention it's not perfect, and I've only driven a grand total of 3 kart tracks so I'm no expert, but the place is friendly and big fun.

Thanks Ira, Al and others! The karting sounds fun and it'll be a fun way to beat up on all the other coworkers- since I race them at various tracks including Newcastle. If we can make it to the DC area, that'll be great but definitely have the open house on the 2nd as a must-do. If there's a chance to meet some of you, that would be very cool. ....time to get going.

If you come to Radcliffe, how do we know what a Heat Seeker WS6 looks like? Will you be in a Firebird?

It would be great to meet up!

While visiting Baltimore bring marshmallows, hot dogs and a gun. You may need all three. Sorry but the people doing this are animals. nothing less. They give the black community a reputation they have been trying to get away from forever.

You may want to stay away from Baltimore. I refuse to go there anymore. Sorry Ira.
I don't feel safe visiting anymore after tonight. National Guard on station now.

These animals brought this upon themselves. You can kiss your convention center, Science Center, National Aquarium and Inner Harbor revenue and visitors goodbye. I won't even attend the ball games anymore.

    Charm(less) City Update

The damage from the riots was significant. Here's a breakdown from Howard Libit, spokesman for the mayor's office:

    - 15 officers hurt, 6 hospitalized

    - 144 vehicle fires

    - 15 structure fires

    - Nearly 200 arrests

As the National Guard fanned out through the city Tuesday morning, firefighters were still battling hot spots from the previous night's fires.
