Hi Everyone, Ferrari of Washington is having a Track Day at the new Dominion Raceway in Thornburg, VA on Thursday, May 19th. Just wondering if anyone was going to this? Here is the flyer announcement I received from them. If you're interested in participating, I highly recommend you sign-up with Laetitia Calza. Bill P. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'm signed up for the FOW track day. I'm curious what this new Dominion Raceway track is like. It is only about a little over an hour drive from where I live in Northern Virginia. Taking the 458, got it tech inspected at FOW a few weeks ago. .
Scott, I believe they would like to keep it "Ferrari only" this time. The reason is they want to use this as an education experience. So people can learn how to handle their Ferrari's. But you may want to contact Laetitia Calza at FoW and verify this. Bill P.
Andrew, I believe the answer will be "yes", but best to confirm w/ FoW (Laetitia Calza). I'll also be there (track is a short 20 minute drive from my house!) working pit/grid. Please have your paperwork in order (tech inspection forms completed, and grid inspection forms ready) to get through grid inspection and ready to go on track. Look forward to seeing everyone there! George P.
I was also tempted, but likely will not for two reasons: Not tracking my 360 Spider any longer. (In response to question on roll bars, I have tracked my spider at most of the tracks near us on east coast, including Watkins Glen and never had any issues.) Would consider bringing my GT3. Not clear that track will be ready; event scheduled for this week cancelled as track not ready. Definition of "track ready" is also open to interpretation. Rob in Potomac
Thanks Bill.. That makes sense... Looking forward to trying this track out as it is much closer to me than Summit Point. Maybe next time..
As of right now, I believe that, yes, it's still scheduled. We did a site visit last week and asked for some things to be done in order to proceed. The track officials were very amenable to the changes, so I'm expecting good things. As a brand new track, this event will be run a bit more "tightly" than events at SPR, but it's a fun and challenging track, and really should be a good time. Let's just hope the weather holds out.... gp
Just got an email from FOW. The track day has been postponed. Reason is the last two weeks of rain has delayed the final track work for the new road course. Refunds will be given to those that signed up and FOW will work with the track to set a new date. .
Toggie beat me to this. I got an email too. Once we hear anything, I'll be sure to post it online. Bill P.
Yep, I got this message right after I got home.... A few of the things which needed to be done were to move some barriers, install some guardrail, and do some additional paddock paving - none of which have been possible with all of this rain. Looking forward to a reschedule.... gp
New track day announced for Thursday, June 29th from 9am-5pm at Dominion Raceway. Fee $550 includes breakfast and lunch and driving instructor if needed. They are running 3 groups. Also, the new karting indoor track is open in Manassas Mall.
CORRECTION: Although the invite from FoW says "Thursday" the actual date is WEDNESDAY, June 29th. This has been verified with Laetitia at FoW. Hope to see you all there! Bill P.
So who wants to loan me their flappy paddle ferrari for a day? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk
Has anyone been to the track? Some photos scrolling on their website show a track under construction - with cars on track. Really odd and scary with compromised run offs. Anyone have current pics or can talk about its readiness?
Hi Ray, I'm hoping 360GTRacer will chime in here as he is one of the Track Support Staff for this event. So I believe he's been out to the track and can recount what he's seen. Bill P.
See if 360GTRacer has good news. I need to replace my 2005 helmet and in talking to a local supply house in Sterling today I asked about the track. He said some car clubs are postponing because it's not ready. Back to the helmet, he said their 2010 / 2015 helmet selection was very limited and many clubs are extending the 2005 helmet for this year.
Regarding the helmet, I was in the same situation. I needed to replace my 2005 helmet for both the FOW event and the FCA 2016 Annual Meet in Columbus, OH in two weeks. I talked to OG Racing in Sterling, VA (perhaps the same shop you talked to?). I was able to get a new G-Force GF3 Full Face SA2015 Helmet. Cost was $265 with tax. Ordered it online a few days ago and it has arrived at their Sterling store for me to pickup. Their website is www.ogracing.com if anyone else needs a helmet quickly. .
