I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often at Katies, to be honest.

Agree.

I'm always extra careful when I go to leave Katie's parking lot.

People walk right in front of your car as you inch your way down the center lane.
Plus, people talk with you or say bye as you slowly drive out.

Nothing wrong with doing those things but it does but more responsibility on the driver to be careful.
It is a short test of one's situational awareness.

I know exactly who this young man was, and not from the car community. He worked on a program I am on. He wasn't my employee, but my employees knew him well. Terrible news.

Very sad news about the car crash that morning.
Driver lost his life at age 28.

More info here:
https://fcpdnews.wordpress.com/2016/08/06/fatal-crash-in-reston/

Fatal Crash in Reston
BY FCPD PUBLIC AFFAIRS BUREAU on AUGUST 6, 2016

Officers responded to the 1100 block of Walker Road in the Great Falls area on Saturday, August 6, around 7:32 a.m. for the report of a single-vehicle crash. Officers located a yellow 2004 convertible that had been involved in the crash. The initial investigation determined that an adult male was driving the vehicle northbound on Walker Road, when for an unknown reason, the vehicle left the roadway, hit a dirt berm, overturned several times, and came to rest.

The driver of the vehicle, a 28-year-old male, was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and pronounced deceased by medical staff. There were no other occupants in the vehicle.

Preliminary information suggests that speed appears to be a factor in this crash. The driver of the vehicle has been identified as Henry H. Sterne, of Alexandria, and next of kin has been notified. Detectives from the Crash Reconstruction Unit responded and the investigation is on-going.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Crime Solvers electronically by visiting Fairfax County Crime Solvers - Home or text-a-tip by texting “TIP187” plus your message to CRIMES(274637)** or by calling 1-866-411-TIPS(8477), or call Fairfax County Police at 703-691-2131.

I knew him from the MBCA. He and his AMG 560 were a steady presence at meets and get-togethers. I'm very sorry to hear this. 28 is way too young.

From various Facebook posts, it looks like his yellow convertible was a Honda S2000.
Sad to lose someone so young.

What direction is that pic? I hope that isn't the launch point, but the divots in the grass and where the equipment is...?? Man. That had to be some pretty big speed.

Excuse me? Why don't you try being a little more specific. The young man worked on a u.s. government contract that I have 5 employees on. We had grief counselors on site yesterday from our prime. One of my employees was scheduled to fly out with Henry on a mission next week. Don't be cryptic. Please do spit out whatever nonsense it is you're speaking of.

...seemed he was from the car community, or at least going towards Katie's.

It's a shame, regardless, and the crash draws needless negative attention to the event. Thanks to the speed as a factor, FCPD will surely be "watching" the event.

The point of the post from Piper (at least as I read it) was not that this individual is not involved in the car community, it was that Piper personally did not know him from the car community but rather from work....

I see, reading it in another way.

Regardless though, needless negative attention to the event. 2c.

So true.. I've only seen it happen one other time where someone was backing into a spot and nailed the rear fender of an older 911. There was also the guy in the 599 a few months back who took out something like 5 cars on Gtown Pike. I was going to go to this on Saturday but decided against it because a few hours later I was starting off on a 2 month road trip and my exact thought process was "Katie's is too crazy these days and I don't want anyone smacking my car right before heading across the country." Then I see this poor guy's Speciale...

Sorry to hear about the guy with the S2000 as well. Tragic.
