I need an able and reliable shop who knows how to handle Ferrari V12s (specifically a 456, in my case). I know I can (and probably should) make the drive to NoVa, but my life would be greatly simplified if I could find a good referral in this area.

Looking for a solid recommendation anywhere between Richmond and Virginia Beach.

    Thanks!

Asgor,I am in Richmond and wish i could help but do not know anyone, most of the guys i know send there cars to Competizione or an independent in NC ( don’t recall the name) i have a Daytona that does not require much but when it does I ship it back to the restorer in Wisconsin..but if i were to keep it ‘local’ I believe i would send it to Tom Yang(Radciff Motors) in Maryland..Chuck

Thank you Chuck. Obviously the size of our respective paychecks differs extensively :)

Closing the loop on my original request, I have found AutoHaus in Williamsburg to be a sufficiently reliable partner for most of my car's needs. Brilliant technicians and overall a quality experience.

Ha- I was just about to propose them !!! I've known Hans Hohlreider (the owner) for almost 25 years. I remember when he only had his 40 × 40 yellow building on George Washington Memorial Hwy (Rt 17). Hansy and I go way back- in the late 90s/ early 2000s, we used to import gray market Gwagens and other cars from Germany. His buddy would spot the cars for us, I'd put up the money, and he'd handle the rest. I know he has a *lot* of great MBZ mechanics, but not sure if he has a Ferrari guy. 456 is pretty analog, no ?

Thankfully the 456 is an easy-ish car to work on - it even has OBDII! I do most of the easy stuff and I let the folks at AutoHaus do the heavy lifting when needed. In the end that car requires nothing that is out of the realm of a skilled technician. Ferrari or not, after all it is just an automobile engine bolted to a frame.

Surely newer Ferrari models offer levels of complication that, among other things, can only be dealt with using OEM proprietary diagnostic - and that's why experienced Ferrari specialists are a tremendous asset when specific knowledge is required.

    I answered my own question.

My 456GT is gone and has been replaced with a 348tb. Long story short, I just had Abacus Racing in Virginia Beach do the engine-out major service and they did an outstanding job. Good communication, knowledgeable staff and the shop is small enough to allow for that personable touch. Very reasonable pricing to boot - certainly cheaper than any of the known shops in the Washington DC + Maryland area.

I picked up my car the other day and, after a few shake-down drives, I can confirm the quality of their work is remarkable.
