Mondial 3.2 Coolant pipes - advice needed

I'm in the process of overhauling the Mondial coolant system and I am tempted to fit a drain-off tap on either the front delivery or return pipes connecting to the radiator. This will require welding an Aluminium piece to the pipe to take the drain-off tap. I'm told it would be helpful with the welding process if I knew the type of Aluminium alloy that the original pipe is made of (e.g. Duralumin). Does anybody have any idea?

This is a great idea. I had an 80's mid-engined car that included a drain such as this. It makes sense since the transfer pipe was at the lowest point of the cooling system.

Sorry that I can't help with identifying the alloy type...
