Hey guys, if I'm gonna work on my Mondial, it's obviously essential that I be able to get under her. Well, I'm considering 4 of these jackstands I found on e-Bay. I'm looking at these because the they're made in the USA and are not cheap chinese crap, plus, the price seems fair; $109.00/pair. (Even "Craftsman" jackstands are made in china these days.) This is the link: Hein Werner HW93503 3 Ton Capacity Jack Stands Made in The USA | eBay
and the item number is: 111202351878. I'd like your opinions. I have a set of chinese made jackstands I purchased years ago, but I'm actuall, scared to even use them on the wife's MGB.
    Thanks

I bought the Chinese "CRAP" from Harbor freight and got the 6 ton model and am very pleased. They look just like the ones that you are considering except for the color.

I generally "double-down" when using jack stands. I have two pair of the ratchet type that you linked to, and have two pair of "pin" type stands. (Not the exact ones in the picture, but you get the idea.) I've use the stands with the pins as the primaries, and the ratchet ones as the secondary stands. The only problem is that the bases of the stands flair out and reduce the amount of room I have under the car.

I think that the Hein Werner stands look good, but I still wouldn't trust the ratchet stands as my primary ones...

Agreed. I use a scissor lift with Jack stands as a safety back up.

If you have a Northern Tool in the area the same jack stands go for $64.99. The 6-ton models (look the same) sell for $94.99.

I use the heavy duty ratcheting stands. If the fear is you will bump the ratchet handle and the car will come down I can't see this happening with the weight of the car on the jack stand. If this was the case, lawyers would have fixed the problem long ago.

Near the cutouts on the rocker panels. Make certain you don't make actual contact with the panels though.

Paul, I have the same jackstands. They are terrific.
My jack is a heavy one, I Always put old subframe rubber between jack and car to avoid troubles (slipping, scratching and bending metal)

I work all the time under the cars with these jackstands. The Lancia is on jackstands this very moment. Exhaust & wheelbearing service.

I use 4 jack stands, 2 in rear, 2 as backup in rear, and the RhinoRamps Vehicle Ramps for the front wheels to be more secure and still have the height. Hopefully this year, I can get a 4 post lift in my garage.

In addition to jackstands, I'm very happy with a pair of Rage Powersports aluminum service ramps. These things have long removable sloped sections and get the car up pretty high. The long ramp makes it possible to drive the Ferrari up onto them without interference, front or rear. Once the sloped portions are removed, you have good access from the sides.

Also, a large jack with a "spreader bar" makes it possible to lift the rear of the car in one quick action. The combination of ramps and jackstands is a real time saver.

Like Jeremy, I use additional jackstands as a safety measure.

I have all ratchet stands. I like the ease of operation. Two of them are very vintage, they were in an apartment I moved into a bit over 20 years ago, left behind by the prior tenant. they were very old at that time. You can see one of them at the front of my car.

I use old pieces of leather between the stand and the car. Heavy rubber would probably be better, but I've been using the same leather pieces for a few years now and they haven't broken through.

The other option is to look for an old muffler shop. In this case my Dad purchased it as the price got ridiculously cheap. No lift, no jack stands. :D

Just watch out for that pit!

Ratcheting jack stands CAN drop if you hit the lever under the right conditions. You can search on rennlist.com and read a thread on a guy who had a car partially crush his skull. He survived and included pictures of his head after surgery.

I have a pair of ratcheting stands that also have a pin that is inserted....they work quite well.

I use extra stands, hydraulic floor jacks, Rhino Ramps, etc. as backups.....I don't believe that you can ever be too safe.

I've been happy with esco stands. They have a flat top version with a removable rubber pad. One benefit (to me) is that they can lift fairly high. Online sources are about $130/pr

I think I'm gonna get 2 pair of "pin" stands and use the cheap chinese ratchet ones I already have as back-ups. I always keep my jack jacked up even with the stands while I'm under the car plus, I slide my ramps under it too. I even have the OEM Ferrari scissor jack under it.

Well, I went to Northern the other day and found a pair of "Torin" ratchet jackstands. They had a pin for added safety. I was messing around with them after I got one set. I was able to make the jack fall with the "safety" pin in place. I think I'm gonna opt for the "non-ratchet" type.
