Just curious....
Yes! Last production was the Mondial T in 1993. Mid-engine 2+2 For a time, Ferrari built 2+2 versions of its mid-engined V8 cars. Although they looked quite different from their 2-seat counterparts, both the GT4 and Mondial were closely related to the 308 GTB. 1974-1980 208/308 GT4 1974-1975 Dino 308 GT4 1976-1980 308 GT4 1975-1980 208 GT4 1980-1993 Mondial 1980-1981 Mondial 8 1982-1985 Mondial QV (Quattrovalvole) Coupé 1983-1985 Mondial QV Cabriolet 1985-1989 3.2 Mondial Coupé & 3.2 Mondial Cabriolet 1989-1993 Mondial T Coupe & Mondial T Cabriolet
I heard that the Mondial cabriolet was the only production car to have a 2+2 mid engined V8 layout in History. Hope someone can verify this. If it's true, it's really cool. Kind regards, Nuno.
The 308gt4 was the first and the last production cars to have this setup would be the Mondial coupes and cabriolets!!! Not sure about automotive history but for sure Ferrari history!
The Evora is being billed by Lotus as the world's only mid-engine 2+2, although don't expect to be putting two adults in the back seats. Evora is powered by a Toyota-sourced 3.5-liter V-6 massaged by Lotus to produce around 276 horsepower and 252 lb-ft of torque which will more than likely move the Evora's 2976 pounds with authority. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission. Read more: Lotus calls new car Evora, billed as world's only mid-engine 2+2 Image Unavailable, Please Login
No. The Lamborghini Urraco was also a mid-engine V8 2+2, and of course as Mike mentioned, the 308GT4. The Mondial Cabriolet was the only 2+2 mid-engine convertible.
It's true - there are a lot other cars that have 'some' combination of the 3 (but not all 3): 1) Full Convertible (not t-top) 2) Mid Engined (as in between front and rear axle) 3) 4 Seats The Evora is a 2+2, is mid engined - but no T top or convertible (though there's been talk fo years about it, considering the Marque is struggling for survival - don't keep your hopes up) The closest car would be the 911 Cab - although as many 911 enthusiasts know - the engine is behind rear axle - the 911 is technically not "Mid-engined" (not that it matters - it handles like magic anyway) That fact alone gentlemen, makes the Mondial (as if having Ferrari is not rare already in it's own right) truly - one of kind in automotive history. (at least the cab versions) Hope this helps!
I would argue that the back seat of the Mondial is no more useful than the back seat of the Evora as far as people sitting goes. That is unless you're 5' 4" and can have the front seats pulled up.
That's great Paul, thank you! Yet another reason to feel proud and cherish my beloved Mondial! Kindest regards, Nuno.
The most wonderful thing about Mondial Cabs is, they're the only one! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Exactly why I decided on a Mondial for my first Ferrari. Dont forget the gated shifter! It's silly how inexpensive these cars are with all these unique features. Not to mention they sold over asking price when new and sold reasonably well. I love the Porsche 928 too and have had four of them. Also silly inexpensive for what they offer. Guess I'm lucky for having divergent car taste. Lol.
True, these cars have tiny backseats - perfect for a family man like myself with two petite daughters....for my bachelor brothers...the Mondial is percect for your wingman, and the two girls you just met at the club
As the original researcher on this, I think the Mondi is still The One with All Three: 1) True convertible top. No T tops and such 2) Engine between front and real axle 3) 4 seats And the rear seats are better than my 2001 Jag XKR because you can get your knee to the left of the driver and the right of the passenger.
I beleive the i8 spyder version for goes the rear seat to make room for roof. Mondial cabs still the only one in this config Image Unavailable, Please Login
I really disagree for a coupe. We often drive with 4 adults to somewhere. Sometime 10 miles and the other time 100 and they are quite comfortable in the back. The first time they were really surprised that it was possible. The look on people faces when we get out is also priceless
Back seat is huge compared to the Evora. And head room is infinity with the top down. I take the wife, son, daughter AND 90lb bernese mountian dog mix to Exotics at Redmond Town Center weekly. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Wow! that is some picture!!! I am a fan of the Evora, when I was cross shopping that car was very high on the list of potential cars. The negatives ended up outweighing the pros Pros ----- Better Reliability (initially at least) Mid-Engine, 4 Seats Offered as a manual Looks great Great handling Negatives ----------- Still depreciating No convertible option Same exact engine as my Toyota Sienna Lotus no longer involved in F1 (I'm a F1 fan) Lotus does not offer the huge amount of dealer events/bonus parties Lotus does not have the same amount of local clubs It cost more then a Mondial (even factoring in the $$$ for me sorting it out)
