After months of investigating a start problem (hot and cold) and after a visit from a guy from the local road assistance, it became clear that the white ignition cable, connected to the ignition block on the steering column, was faulty and the cause of the starting problem.

So, what I did was I managed to get a spare one from a wrecked Mondial. This Mondial was only a couple of months younger than mine, so I thought the key cilinder would be exactly the same... NOT ! The ignition cilinder had the same dimensions, but its tiny positioning button and screw hole were located elsewhere.

FORTUNATELY, I also bought the spare hub for the upper shaft in which the key cilinder fits. UNFORTUNATELY that meant a lot of extra work: removing all cables from the main switch that pass through the hub... 4 hours of work, but this spared me a lot of money!

Here are some pics of the work I did:

    1. Removing the main switch by 2 bolts after having removed the wheel
    2. Removing the collection of cables from the main switch from the hub and from behind steering wheel
    3. The spare hub that I had to mount
    4. Re-assembling the steering wheel
    5. Reconnecting all cables
6, 7 and 8: removing the old key cilinder (carefully + remember how this was assembled)
    9. Removing the steel part behind the steering wheel with a pulley puller.

And now I have a real Ferrari ignition key instead of an aftermarket key.

My car is still starting very well, the ignition key replacement did the trick.

    Nice work, enjoy the key.

I feel fortunate that my car came with two sets of factory keys. I know some people lock them away and use after market, but I enjoy the little horsey on them. :) And you can too. :D
