I've been going through wiring diagrams a fair amount recenlty and see that they mention there being a power socket in the engine bay. Presumably the same one as in the glove box that the light can be connected to. I haven't done an exhaustive searh, but I've certainly never seen it before.

Does anyone know where it is located?

    Thanks,

No such thing on the cabrio, I do not know about the coupe.

Here are the 2 power outlets that I know of:

Not sure what your talking about but I power my GPS this way... Yes Brian, the one on the console is the old Italian skinny cigarette lighter and not a power outlet. I was going to convert that one to a more modern power outlet but decided not to since I can get juice from the glove box.

Wow, thanks Brian your right its in the OM but its not on my car.
My car does not have that socket at that location nor any kind of wiring to it. weird.
Anyone else with a QV or 3.2 have that socket in their engine bay?

My former 82 Mondial 8 coupe had the power socket as pictured, but my 87 cabrio does not have it. I presume it is a coupe only item.

I found it in the owners manual as well when looking a bit further. My car does not have it, though.

The wiring diagrams also show two cigarette lighters. Does the coupe have one for the rear passengers?

Learn something new everyday! So it appears that the engine power socket is only in Mondial coupes is what people are confirming. The Ferrari manual is full of mistakes, misprints, and ambiguity. Trust but I always verify.

When you say you see it in your wiring diagram, which diagram and what page? I just looked through the diagrams for both 3.2 coupe and cabriolet, US and std version and there is no indication of a power socket anywhere than the glove box.

I suspect the picture in the owners manual was just a case of reusing a prior manual and updating it for the 3.2 and they screwed up. Not very unusual really.

The QV wiring book does show a socket in the engine bay and the glove box but as far as I can tell no version of the 3.2 had it.

My Euro 3.2 coupe has it, in the glove compartment and in the engine bay
    Both are connected
    Just as the manual says

First, I'm looking in the 87_Mondial_Wiring.pdf I got from the internet--probably from the Ferrari Downloads page.

It is on Figure 10, page 27/37 on the pdf. It is called out as "Al 151" which is noted as "current socket in engine compartment"

If there's a better wiring diagram I'd sure love to find it since I'm still left with questions on this one. My actual issue is that the dashboard and side marker lights aren't working and there is a cross-over between the parking and running lights. If you turn on the headlights the parking light indicator comes on--as do the rear parking lights and the front running (I think) lights. It's probably a fault on the board, but I'm working toward where to narrow it down and test.

I think "fdekeu" just confirmed that the power socket in the engine bay is only in the Coupe model, since yours is a cabrio, I don't think the wiring diagram for the rear socket is relevant.

BTW, link to wiring diagram: http://www.ferraridatabase.com/The_Downloads/The%20Documents/Wiring%20Diagrams%20Mondial%2032%201987.pdf

Well, I haven't found any discrepancies between my manual and my car...
Also, the wiring diagrams that I have been redoing as colored and detailed sheets for the Euro version of QV so far has been consistent with the setup and colors used in my car.... and I have seen more wires than I wished :)
Notably when changing the fusebox for the excellent solution by a gentleman called Guido Theunissen, which involved changing all the plugs at the fuse board to a larger section type.
Possibly, later and US versions might not have benefitted from the necessary update care as the earlier cars?

How is that new fusebox performing ? All fine I hope. Have produced several others and thanks to your experience and comments every box is getting better.

    Hi Guido

    Everything electrically perfect :)

The one thing that you could think of in the light of changing road rules is the integration of daylight driving lights. Since fuse holder number 1 is empty, is might be used for a daylight driving light output :)

    Cheers

Guido, do you have more info on those fuseboxes you make?

Yes that is possible. If you need some of those fuse connectors, let me know.
You can solder them connecting to the right relay connector and to the plus fuse 2...
